Tesco puts 1,600 jobs at risk as it ends overnight restocking

  1. Haven’t supermarkets had record breaking profits over the last two years?

My local Lidl, Wilco’s and Aldi have all installed self checkouts, and now only have one or two tills open rather than 4/5 manned ones. My local Asda now shuts at 10 rather than being 24 hours like it had been for the past decade+.

For one of the few industries to make a killing over the pandemic, they do seem to be cutting more and more jobs by the minute.

I’m honestly surprised the entire supermarket system hasn’t been completely automated by now.

  2. Such a misleading headline! They are ending it in 85 stores, out of 3,801. It’s awful for the 1600 people affected but it’s been totally exaggerated.
