” You like Huey Lewis and the News? “
I’m sorry fellas. I’m afraid you’re just too darn loud.
it’s hip to be square
Why did they have to be? Like 80s Imagine Dragons.
I have a copy of Sports on vinyl in pretty good shape. I tap out after like 2 songs, but you got to love Huey Lewis as a person.
I had a hardcore music fan friend walk me through how they came out of the San Francisco soul scene of the ‘70s and once you hear it, oh my god yes. I as an ‘80s kid was already a big fan but I didn’t realize until like a decade later where that sound was coming from. Like Weird Al, this is a much tighter band than you think at first.
It’s hip to square dude
I hate all things Huey Lewis, except The Power of Love. I’ll change the station, except for that song. Go figure.
Power of Love is an all-time banger
“Edgy” might not be the word for it, but if you hear Huey tell his life story on the WTF podcast…well, let’s just say the man really got around.
Well, I hear that it’s hip to be square.

Just in case any of you haven’t seen this gem!
Did they invent dad rock?
Hot lovin’ every night? I’m fanning myself just thinking about it.
Hurt was exactly what he should have been: AWESOME! Thanks to HE and The News for the great entertainment!
Huey and the band used to play local bar in Mill Valley (CA) called the 2 am club, just down the road from me at the time. I am glad they “made it” and got paid, where lots of musicians do not. I think they really paid their dues for many years before their commercial success.
Remember those groupies who made plaster casts of loads of famous rockstars dicks? Y’know who they said had the biggest? The guy who doesn’t have to be edgy I guess.
Huey’s edgey enough to block stream access through his montana property and lobby to prevent access to public land. So, he’s an edgy asshole.
Who’s edging Huey?
But squares have edges…
Whelp in walks post Malone
And yet permanently associated with Patrick Bateman, so they have that going for them.
“Do you believe in love” is really good.
The musical equivalent of pablum, banal, and bland.
But he wanted a new drug, right?
I’ve heard before that it’s hip to be square.
