  1. If you ever get the opportunity to take the guided tour, do so. The guides seriously know their stuff, and will take you up the towers and into the roof space, where there’s so much more to see.

It takes on a whole different character at night, too. Walking around the cathedral in the evening, when it’s all lit up in the dark, is one of my favourite things to do.

  2. I grew up near Lincoln.

It’s really very impressive and sits on the highest point in otherwise very flat terrain. It dominates the skyline for miles around. You can see if for hours when driving to the city before you get near.

Interestingly it used to be taller with spires as high as the towers on top of the towers that made it the tallest building in the world for some time.

In the middle ages Lincoln was a bit of an economic powerhouse with huge amounts of good farmland all around so they could invest in cathedrals beyond that of the now more famous Winchester and York.

The local joke is the area has been on a steady economic decline since it peaked in the middle ages.

  3. I went to uni in Lincoln and lived up the hill years 2 and 3.

I went out of my way every morning to walk down steep hill on my way to classes just so I could walk past the cathedral.

I used to love getting the train back into Lincoln after a weekend at home and seeing the cathedral from miles away on the approach.

My graduation ceremony was inside the cathedral and it was spectacular.

I bought a lapel pin of the Lincoln imp when I left and I still wear it on special occasions.

    I love this building ❤️
