It’s argued one of the main reasons is the stagnation of building more homes happened in the 80’s due to government cuts to building houses. This was done with the thought that the private sector would take over and meet the housing demands but forgot about the legislation set out in the 1940’s which makes it almost impossible for private companies to build houses without government approval or the approval of people living near development sites.
Houses have become more like a luxury good to be kept a hold of rather than just somthing we build to help people get their own homes, people are now stuck spending most of their wages on high mortgages or high rents due to the lack of houses.
This has a large ripple effect on the economy as money isnt being moved around people as it is just going back to the landlords or mortages rather than actually helping grow the economy.
Brits and their asocial politics. These politics squared = US bullshit. Anglo-Saxon mindset (utilitarism, ultra liberalism, libertarianism, materialism, extrem individualism, protestantism,…) is a plague. And therefore Anglo-Saxons are generaly barbarians (with some culture for the Brits).

The dude really did his research and how the decline is a result of a fucked up political landscape and the result of laws put in place before the Thatcher era (Thatcher reforms just open the worse part of these laws), and how most legislations are just creating big retirement home for the rich old pensionners
