In June, my wife and I had a trip up north. We lost our breath at Hamarøy, this was a truly magical place to visit – and far less crowded than Lofoten. I was unaware of the historical significance of the area around Nessestraumen (a tidal stream that can move up to 23 knots (40 km/h)!) and the fact that there are a lot of relics from the viking age – this was probably a center of power for hundreds of years. In total 29 graves from Pre-Christian time has been uncovered, the largest being 30 meter in diameter and 2,5 meters high.

We spent a night in the area, and didn´t meet any other tourist at all. We made an hour long hiking video from that night, the full movie is here.

Hamarøy is just a short ferry trip from Svolvær, Lofoten. Highly recommended! Next time we´ll spend more time at this beautiful island
