  1. God save the King 👑

Surely swearing allegiance, being Allies with the UK. Is not beyond wider nationalism in the 21st century? Well done to Colum for doing so.

Without the UK. Nationalism has no other allies to protect them from the likes of Russia. The US one is superficial at best. The UK is Sinn Fein’s closest military ally in reality.

  2. I didn’t actually know this was a thing. Totally understand why someone would not want to do this if their beliefs are that of a United Ireland.

  3. It’s funny how many Nationalists vote Alliance yet won’t say a thing about them swearing the oath. When Colum does his own version, he still gets berated by the shinners.

Well, you can always ask Sorcha at the next armed forces day event, because you can be sure she’ll be in attendance 🙂

  4. At least he takes his seat – Catholic from NI. Slight nationalist (not republican) leanings. Waste of time, if you’re not going to represent the people of your country with the people who fund it.

  5. Always loved Dennis Skinners version, “I solemnly swear that I will bear true and faithful allegiance to the Queen when she pays her income tax”

  6. And this is precisely what Sinn Fein should be doing. Saying a few empty words under protest and then affirming that their true allegiance is to their constituency and the people of Ireland. Very common sense from Mr Eastwood. Gained a lot of respect for him for doing this
