Fuck our lives and this stupid country. You could not write a script like this, way too absurd.
the leader of a powerful nation of the free world, able to beat Trump or not, should not be looking like Joe
Yeah I said it
Are we sure nobody else could beat Trump? Is Viserys Joe really our best option?
According to many users in this sub Stewart is a right wing troll
You know, I always took comfort as a liberal that the Democrats were the party of facts and objectivity, to at least a comparative extent to the GOP. We at least acknowledged global warming, wage disparity, polling, science, and other just baseline metrics that we accept as gauges of reality.
After watching the collective gaslighting that has occurred since POTUS rambled on about immigrants raping their sisters and beating Medicare, I’m not so sure anymore. It looks like we’re going to pretend to live in an alternate reality where Biden is lucid and not getting hammered in the polls. It’s a sad state of affairs.
Stewart said exactly what most of us were thinking last night.
But we’re stuck. The only person that could make Biden drop out was Biden. And he couldn’t do the noble thing.
Now we have to pretend there’s some inspiring, energetic campaign to beat Trump for the next 4 months and wince every time he has a public appearance.
I will emphatically point out how objectively worse Trump is and the dangers he poses, but I feel awful about the campaign prospects. Not gonna lie.
People turning on Stewart over this are really funny. Sometimes the truth hurts.
Even Stephen Colbert did a 11 minute monologue laying into Joe Biden.
We don’t need expressions of confidence. We need evidence of competence.
Biden and the Democrat establishment’s position is having the unintended effect of convincing voters that this election isnt actually “an existential threat to the Country”. How could it be if they aren’t doing everything possible to win? That’s how people are starting to feel… “Well I guess this isn’t actually a big deal, they must be overblowing things”.
If a doctor told me he needed to give me medicine or I’d probably die and then said “ya know, I actually don’t feel like walking to get it right now”, I wouldn’t think I’m about to die. I’d think they were exaggerating about the consequences.
Trump 2024 I guess… (And maybe 2028).
It’s shows the sad state of partisan politics
When you call this out, people turn to you and say “BoTh SiDeS”
What I wouldn’t give to have a Democratic party to vote for that actually has even the slightest amount of fight in them.
Its dangerous for his supporters to push this idea that no one else can win, that replacements can’t get on the ballot, or that a convention could not work.
In the not entirely unlikely event that he dies or has an even more major downturn and is physically unable to campaign they will have convinced large swaths of the base that nothing can be done. They will also have given legitimacy to republican misinformation about candidates ability to be on the ballot, giving cover to Trump appointed judges to deny them without any legal basis.
Edit: someone linked an article where Biden denied only planning on one term ( or was lukewarm about it.) since I cited one, I’ll link that one below as well. Wasn’t aware the Biden team had responded to this back in 2019. My opinion hasn’t changed on the matter but I want to make sure I don’t mislead anyone.

Biden was supposed to serve 1 term. There’s multiple articles talking about it from 2019, diving into conversations aides had with donors and people close to the campaign.
https://www.politico.com/news/2019/12/11/biden-single-term-082129 Our democracy is going to die because an old man couldn’t take a hit to his ego. A fitting end for the American Experiment. Keep the pressure on. We can’t ignore the orange, fascist racist buffoon but we also can’t ignore the man who’s currently losing his mind over simply ceding power to a younger candidate.
All these Joe Biden posts look the same.
Look, he’s not wrong, but it’s unlikely the ticket will change. So the choice is still between a generally well intentioned old man who may be in mental decline but has put together a competent administration and a lying, narcissistic, felonious old man who might be in mental decline who will build an incredibly dangerous administration.
Does it suck that these are the options? Yep. Is one option still far better than the other? Yep. The presidency isn’t a monolith. It’s about building the entire executive branch. And 8 presidents have died in office before. We have a succession plan that has worked just fine in nearly 20% of all presidencies. I’m far more concerned about the crazy wannabe fascists old man than the doddering one.
If we survive this election and Biden wins, we need a Democratic full court press to make more headway in Republican led states
>“That’s not what this is about! There are no participation trophies in endgame democracy. Oh yeah, I remember FDR saying, ‘Well, if the Nazis take over Europe, at least both teams had fun,’” he added.
EXACTLY!
I’m not a big Biden fan, but he’s an infinitely better choice than the orange twat. It shouldn’t be a contest but somehow it is. If you’re voting Trump chances are the candidate the Dems put up won’t change anything and same goes for most dems (I assume). The issue is independents and I like to think the rational will not go to Trump anyway
I want out of this timeline.
Look Biden concerned me but all these assholes skittering out of the cracks to give their medical diagnosis based on what they saw on tv and googled on the internet reminds me so much of vaccine deniers during covid.
I am voting blue and will continue canvassing and phone banking no matter what.
I don’t think it’s an unpopular opinion to prefer a young, able-minded candidate to defeat Trump at an extremely pivotal year for democracy. This is honestly one of the worst-case scenarios I can think of heading into the general election.
All of that being said, these fantasy scenarios of “let’s do a Shapiro/Whitmer ticket” don’t feel productive because that is not an outcome that will occur. So yes, while I would prefer a more ideal situation, we’re not dealing in ideals.
There is a very limited set of options here. It’s either Biden, Kamala, RFK, not voting, or Trump. There are legal (Heritage Foundation keeping any changes off ballots in swing states) and logistic hurdles (access to campaign funds) that also make this impractical.
If this discussion was happening more than several weeks before the national convention, I’d say sure, let’s continue these discussions. But unfortunately we are out of time and need to proceed with the options we have.
It feels like a tremendous disservice to the country for these people who claim to be advocates of democracy. We are not going to see different choices here. It’s not “gaslighting” or “Blue MAGA,” we just unfortunately don’t have options or time. We have to accept the likelihood that a lackluster Joe Biden will be running, and we have to play the hand we are dealt.
So yes, we are all in agreement, Joe Biden is way too old and we’d like someone else. That isn’t an option, so now what? How do we proceed? For me, I value democracy and not worrying about loved ones being put in internment camps, so I will do what I can to make sure Trump stays out of office. I’m not going to say that people shouldn’t have concerns, but I am going to say that there are times when you have to make decisions between flawed choices as your only options. It sucks that is the case for the Democracy vs. Fascism election, but that’s the reality.
We can’t vote on the person. We are now voting on the cabinet, their agenda, and the very existence of our democracy. I love Jon, but if Biden isn’t leaving then we got to have the eye on the prize here. Biden, while old and behind a step or 5, at least hires competent people who do their jobs and actually seem to care about the welfare of the people.
Our reality is absurd and stupid and I wish I didn’t live in it, but than worrying about it, we have to come to terms and find the best solution so we could maybe find a way to create a world we would want to live in.
But if Biden is re elected but can’t serve, he’ll just transfer power to VP Kamala Harris. They’re acting like it’ll be a horrible chaotic interregnum for some reason. Biden on his worst day will still be better than Trump on his best day. I really don’t get it. It’s like Jon and the rest of the pundits desperately want Trump to win.
Once again, another media “Joe Biden old” hit piece.
We get it. He’s old.
Now why aren’t we talking about Donald’s 60+ trips on Epstein’s plane? Or the amount of times he lied during the debate?
I’ve got to say I’ve watched Jon Stewart my whole life. I find him to have a rapier wit, a warriors mentality to fight for righteous causes (9/11 first responders) and one of the most intelligent speakers I’ve ever heard.
But I’m getting frustrated with him.
Read the room Jon! There’s no one else for the Democrats to come behind in the political sphere that will galvanize the base and make a dent in the cult leader that is Trump. There is no one. No one but YOU.
It’s got to be you man. If Zelensky can do it and showcase more grace and strength than we’ve seen since WWII you can do it man.
We need ya Jon.
How am I supposed to convince anyone to go out and vote for fucking Biden?!?
PUT ANYONE ELSE ON THE TICKET AND THE PEOPLE WILL FLOCK TO VOTE FOR THEM. LITERALLY ANYONE WHO IS NOT TRUMP OR BIDEN PLEASE
Ok Jon. Hope you enjoy the Trump regime. He’ll send you off to the maga gulag, by the way.
Man I thought having Stewart back would be good for the left. He’s just feeding the in fighting.
This type of discourse is more harmful to the democrats this election than the debate
Rich White guy with nothing to lose, who bashed Clinton in 2016, has an opinion
i get that Jon Stewart has to do the whole “tell it like it is” routine & occasionally bash Dems so he doesn’t come off hyper-partisan, but I hope he knows that realistically, practically, pragmatically, it’s a bad idea to invalidate the primary results because of a bad debate, and I hope he does know he’s hurting Dems’ chances the more he does this and that he’s not going to change Biden’s mind, but Stewart will likely improve his ratings and his own image of a brave truthsayer, that’s great for him.
Jon Stewart out here fucking stumping for Trump.
Throw your hat in the ring Jon.
Biden is still going to run and I’m still voting for Biden.
And yet, if we want democracy to continue we must vote Joe. Tell your friends we can keep it, but we must vote blue no matter who.
It’s not about voting for Biden, it’s about voting for who he surrounds himself with. The people that Trump surrounds himself with scare me way more than Trump actually does.
Jon….I don’t think any of us are making excuses. We just don’t want Trump in office and it is way WAY too late in the game to throw the relief pitcher in.
