I'm doing research for Imperial College London, about how Malta can reduce the extreme traffic and congestion problems using data and analytics.

Here's a brochure of an app concept we have come up with.

  1. This is a great hypothetical idea but should not be limited to an app. This should be installed live boards on street traffic with alerts and updates diverting traffic.

  2. this would be a pointless project that won’t solve anything. we already have this on Google maps and waze today.

You should shift your homework into a totally differenet perspective. A perspective that isn’t car centric but more focused on alternative transport.

  3. The funny thing is nobody would use it. People dont really care about how they drive here. The best way to remove traffic is to remove cars altogether 😀

  4. What if your app works perfectly? You instill fresh confidence into drivers that they can take their car because your app will guide them, everything proceeds “business as usual” for a couple more years then all those marvelous B roads your app makes use of are jammed as well.

Your product will fail even if it succeeds, because there’s no change to the status quo, just shifting the problem a few years down the line.

  5. Contrary to what everyone here seems to be telling you I would say go for it even in the face a low adoption is predicted. If anything this project will help you gain further experience and build your portfolio.

A possible problem I can foresee is that to collect enough data to drive the project you might need sufficient adoption. If that is a hurdle you could perhaps gamify the data collection aspect or even create another app for this.
