>She said the back of her car was “completely crushed” and “gone” and she faced a frantic search to find her son until a lorry driver spotted him lying in the road.
The stuff of nightmares. I can’t even imagine.
Wow reading through the article, the driver/killer (Darryl Anderson) couldn’t be much more despicable:
1. Gets back from Holiday without Wife who left due to his erratic behaviour
2. Tells airport staff he’s off to Bradford to find a new Wife whilst collecting his car/smelling of alcohol
3. Does double the speed limit whilst taking selfies
4. Ploughs into the vehicle killing 2 occupants
5. Survives the crash unscathed, blows nearly 3 times the limit
6. Taken to hospital where he flirts/jokes with nurses
7. Declines blood samples due to fear of needles (he’s covered in tattoos)
8. Declines to comment in first police interview
9. In second interview makes up that a hitchhiker had been driving
10. Maintains the lie until his DNA is found on the airbag
Oh and prior convictions for drink/driving.
What a lovely bloke.
His story that he picked up a random hitchhiker, asked the hitchhiker to drive and then fell asleep to be woken by the crash??? I mean holy shit you’ve killed a tiny baby and you’re willing to tell such blatantly ridiculous lies to avoid accountability is there just a total void in him where normal human feeling lives?
People driving like this should be charged with murder. Its like firing a gun randomly into a crowd, you might not have a specific target in mind but you know there is a extremely high chance your actions will kill someone.
The maximum sentence is functionally 18 years (even though the law says life, the sentencing guidelines don’t, so it would take very exceptional circumstances to deviate from that), so this is about as long as someone is likely to get. As far as I understand it though, unless they changed it when they increased the sentence, this isn’t counted as a violent crime, so he’ll be automatically released after 8½ years (or maybe a little bit less).

This is just horrible, the only good is for once justice seems to have been served. Poor baby and woman it’s horrible.

fuck me
The sentence is nowhere near harsh enough. He will be out in 8-9 years to continue his life.
An actual piece of shit.

The more I look into this case, the more infuriated I feel.
This sociopathic bloomy-rind knob cheese drunkenly drove his Audi at 141 miles per hour (over twice the national speed limit) whilst taking dashboard pictures on his phone for what I can only presume to be social media clout and ‘bragging rights’, yet [he’s more worried about his businesses than the fact that his callous disregard ended the life of a baby boy and his aunt.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LmQJaiD6l4) Not to mention the way this guy had been acting before and after the collision whilst at 3x (possibly more) over the legal blood alcohol limit suggests to me he has a *big* drinking problem.
As an uncle to a three-month-old myself, I cannot imagine the anguish that family is going through.
> Watch killer driver claim “mistakes happen”
He claimed the lives of two innocents whilst erratically speeding across the motorway like a NASCAR driver and all he could say was “mistakes happen.” What the fuck??
> Anderson, of Clarell Walk in Thorpe Hesley, had also arrived at Newcastle Airport from a holiday which his wife had left early due to his “erratic behaviour”, Ms Dowling said.
> He collected his Audi Q5 from the airport where a staff member smelled alcohol on him.
> Anderson told the worker his wife had left him on holiday but he was going to Bradford to get another one, Ms Dowling said.
1. Why didn’t that staff member stop him, or sound the alarm? Are they not trained to handle drunken and disorderly people, especially if they’re in or headed towards the car park?
2. How do guys like this get laid, let alone find spouses? This man has more red flags than a matador convention and he’s drunkenly bragging to a member of staff at the car park about how his wife left him and he’s going to Bradford to find another one… I just can’t…
Not in the BBC article but in the local paper:
“She bravely stood up in court and recalled the moment her baby was found by a lorry driver on the opposite side of the carriageway after his chair was propelled from the car.
She said: “I heard a painful scream from the lorry driver crying, ‘Oh no, he’s here – your baby’s here.’ I jumped over to find my baby lying on the edge of the grass of the motorway. I knew instantly. I had to pick my dead baby up from the side of the road. I hugged him so tight, a hug I will never forget.”
Fucking piece of shit. Dangerous drivers are scum of the earth, selfish bastards.

17 years.
At last, judges appear to taking this seriously.
