Rotherhithe tunnel – and commercial rd – are going to be a nightmare when this comes in
So now the only free ways to drive across the river in East is Rotherhithe and Tower Bridge?
Sucks, I used the Blackwall Tunnel to go to Greenwich pirate studios loads. 1.5hrs on public transport, or a 30m drive. I use it to go the The Reach climbing centre too, which is such in such a dead zone that I haven’t even bothered to check how to get there on public transport.
If the government is going to make driving around London harder and more expensive, then something needs to be done to improve transport for journeys around the city (Not just in and out of London).
Still pales in comparison to cost/connectivity of crossing without a car.
Cheaper to take one car through the tunnel than to take one passenger on a ferry 🥲
Seems odd that the toll charge for driving at off peak times is set at a cheaper rate than the cost of taking the bus across. That’s not going to drive the desired behaviour.
Fantastic! Hopefully they’ll use this to fund the walking/cycling bridge from Canary Wharf to Rotherhite, another way to relieve congestion get more people walking & cycling.
Glad I moved away from Limehouse a few years ago 😅
Great, now, let’s have a pedestrian/cycle bridge in East London, please. Silvertown solved exactly zero problems of crossing the river on foot, although apparently there might be a boat service – but the key word being might.

It’s hoorah hoorah hooray until you have a low paying nhs admin job, drive in from Kent, can’t afford high speed and can’t get around easily anyway whilst not registered disabled because technically you don’t meet their criteria even though you can barely feel a foot.
So that’s basically a 100% increase in my cost to get to work. Thanks Sadiq you scumbag
