Supporters of right-wing populist parties in Europe are more likely to have confidence in Putin, but at different rates

  1. AfD even beats piggy Orban‘s party when it comes to Putin.

    I‘m not surprised.

    Garbage to garbage.

  2. I try to understand, why it correlates, some people will say, fascist suppourt fascist etc. but it seems to me, more contrarian and reactionary, simply suppourting more Putin because the general consensus of the Western left is against Putin? I really don’t think many people actually reason about somethings, it’s all reactions and impusleive

  3. Well AfD gets a lot of votes from Germanrussian. There are more than 4million People from Russian/Kasachstan living in Germany and are pro Russia and pro Putin. You never hear AfD criticizing Putin. They avoid criticizing him it with every thing they have. It’s the biggest voting base they have (after native Germans)

  4. What was happening in 2021 that it was that high?

  5. I wish more right wing parties were against Putin and supported Ukraine. As a moderate right winger I see no reason for the right to side with Russia. You only need morale to support Ukraine. Your political views matter not.

  6. I’m shocked Nazis like the new Hitler. Wow totally shocked.

  7. It would be interesting to see the same graph for entire population of these countries.

  8. All of those countries are in NATO, whose member states support Ukraine, fund Ukraine, arm Ukraine and protect hundreds of thousands of Ukraine’s civilians in a war between Ukraine and Putin’s Russia …so how is supporting Putin in those countries not basically one step away from **treason**?

  9. Traitors, i am ashamed of my country Germany. We miss nothing yet here we are….

  10. Sweden democrats hate Putin and if they don’t they will lose a lot of support in the next election, in pools Sweden is the most anti Russia nation in the world at 97% dislike Russia.

  11. People who support Putin should just move to Russia instead of ruining their own countries.

  12. Good thing they added the country. I would never have guessed where the Sweden Democrats are from otherwise.

  13. As a German, it does not surprise me in the slightest that AfD is worse than Fidesz in this.

  14. So it took only 2 years for the Russian propaganda machine to reverse people’s opinions on Putin after the war started. It’s amazing how successful they are at this, we have the easiest access to all the knowledge in the world rn, and yet it feels like people are much more gullible nowadays than in the 20th century.

  15. Noooo shhiiiittt!!! Putin is a far-right facist dictator, is that so hard for people to understand ???!!! It is far-right unity.

  16. And this is a surprise how? They are all in the same mindset. ‘Strong man’ fables they believe in, led by weak men on the inside.

  17. Right wing left wing [https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/1dmm645/volodymyr_zelensky_is_not_welcome_in_france_says/](https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/1dmm645/volodymyr_zelensky_is_not_welcome_in_france_says/)

I can’t personally fathom how one can be “pro Putin” or “anti Ukraine”, but it seems either end of the political spectrum is not full of rationally thinking human beings. Maybe the far right is a bigger problem in this regard but the far left isn’t the answer.

  18. So basically parties in countries that like Russia suffered substantial territorial losses in the last century. How curious.

  19. Basically no difference in Germany pre and post invasion… crazy

  20. Hungary is the saddest example of all, though. We as a former Soviet satellite state used to be fairly anti-Russian, and Orbán’s propaganda managed to turn this into “Ukraine is more dangerous than Russia, Russia is our friend, NATO is evil”…

Hell, Orbán himself used to be *very loudly* anti-Russian even as “recently” as ~10-12 years ago. He lambasted a previous PM for inviting Putin (back when Putin was a *lot* less openly fascist), his party held anti-Gazprom demonstrations with the slogan “we’re not going to be Gazprom’s happiest barrack” etc. As a young politician his first claim to fame was a speech he held at a demonstration (technically not a demo, but in practice it was) where he said “RUSSKIES GO HOME!”

And then he got into power, met Putin, and well, the rest is history. Very sad, very ugly history.

  21. What exactly is meant by “confidence”? I can have lots of confidence in things and people that I neither like nor trust.

I have a certain relative who I despise, but I’m confident that he’ll show up hours early to every family function and expect to be showered with praise for the gift of his detestable presence. I also have confidence that anything valuable that isn’t in the safe will end up in a pawn shop shortly after he leaves.

Also have a coworker who, while a pathological liar, I have full confidence in to produce absolutely perfect welds.

So when I say that I have confidence in Putin’s ability to lead Russia (as he’s done for decades), that doesn’t mean I view him at all favorably. He’s a terrible human being, the world would benefit from his lack of existence, but he’s proven that he can in fact lead Russia and do so very well. His blunder in invading Ukraine being an outlier.

  22. That’s basically because right wing media has been arguing against the war in Ukraine. The question is, who is the main coordinator in this coalition of the racists? And why are politicians leaning in this direction rather than decent democratic values and making sure workers are well treated and therefore content with their lives instead of looking for scapegoats?

  23. I don’t get this love for putin in thr West. Especially if you consider yourself a patriot of your country.

  24. Hm… polis Right Wing is complete against Putin, we have one left wing pro Putin party.

  25. Isn’t it crazy that Putin is “de-Nazifying” Ukraine and yet the Far-Right all love him? Just a weird thing I dunno

  26. /u/littlestar854 Happy to see Sweden being at the very bottom of this list.

You sure know that he’s not worth any bit of trust.

  27. Yey 🇸🇪 Sweden 😍 Where even the far right hates 🗑️🇷🇺 putin 🙏

  28. That same time change after 2023 is interesting. 2022 had only positive effect on Fidesz.
