I don’t understand why people who have a choice continue to go to those shithole countries.
Wow, Dubai has a kind of fucked up way of handling suicide.
Get out of dodge while the gettin is good
That Sky article links to a second one with some pictures of her injuries: bruises on her face, giant bruises on her arms.
People need to stop going to the United Arab Emirates — it’s not safe, the government won’t protect you, and in fact the government is happy to arrest Westerners who break their repressive laws.
Good, fuck those oily degenerate nations thinking human rights doesn’t apply to their laws
They prosecute people for attempting suicide?
That’s beyond fucked up.
What kind of a f**k up place is Dubai? Avoid at all cost.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://news.sky.com/story/tori-towey-irish-woman-charged-with-attempting-suicide-in-dubai-has-travel-ban-lifted-13176079) reduced by 80%. (I’m a bot)

> An Irish woman who was charged with attempting suicide by a Dubai court will be allowed to return home, Ireland's prime minister has said, as the case against her is closed.
> The Dubai government has now confirmed the attempted suicide charges have been dropped.
> Ordeal 'unimaginable' says Irish PM. Earlier, Mr Harris described Ms Towey's ordeal as "Unimaginable" and said it was "Utterly, utterly unacceptable how an Irish citizen is being treated".

Dayum girl
It doesn’t make it ok that she was treated in this manner. Women should feel safe in any and all countries she chooses to reside in. We should also take note of the fact that she was married to a white dude from South Africa who was likely using the laws that exist there to trap his wife into staying with him.
“A woman who has been a victim of a brutal attack found herself waking up not in hospital, but in a police station.”
“The family are being assisted by the ***Detained In Dubai advocacy group***”
so.. she was beaten (and likely raped) and they arrested her for it.
This should be the war ing people need to avoid going to these countries in this region of the world.
They are backwards when it comes to applying laws and it needs to be called out more.
What about leaving a blue state to go to a red state for college?
I’ve never been interested to travel to these side of the world, no matter how much bling and glamour they show us in the facade, I’ll not spend my hard earned dollars when the cities are built by slaves literally, women rights are backwards and it’s just a city of materialism and wealth
My sister was a private nurse and was tempted to find employment there because they pay well. when we heard of the stories kind of abuses they go through with these effed up families with so much oil money and how they treat their employees (domestics helpers, nurses), I’m glad she changed her mind
You also hear stories that western influencers are literally escorts to some of the local dudes to fund their lavish holidays and expensive gifts
For any of you that watched that extends Dubai Bling you can tell some do these beautiful women went though a lot, married some sheikhs at 16, escaped abusive marriages but unable to take their children with them (you can tell they can’t talk about this publicly)
Hey, ladies. Don’t go to the UAE
She doesn’t need punishment, she needs help. Ideally back in Ireland with the support of her loved ones.
Let her come home like she asked. The husband tore up her passport. She needs to go home and away from him. She won’t lead a normal life until that happens.
And of course their medieval laws are fully flexible as soon as there is international backlash and potential fiscal consequence.
You can tell a lot about a person by their opinion of dubai
It’s always bad idea to travel to states run by authoritarian dictatorships and religious fundamentalists.
The sad thing about this is that the travel ban and release were only negotiated because we have very very good relations with the UAE. Others who would find themselves in this position probably wouldn’t be as lucky.
Dubai is a country made up of ‘what color is your Lambo?’ Sheiks.
Poor lady 🙁
Wow fuck the Dubai police and everyone involved who made this situation worse for her.
Dubai is so disgusting on every level
Quit going to the Middle East, ladies.
I don’t know people go to that shitshow of a country
“Tori Towey, from Boyle in County Roscommon, says she tried to take her own life after allegedly being attacked and left with severe bruising and other injuries.”
But there are no details in the article on the “brutal attack”? Who, where, suspects, etc.?
These white women always make the same mistake, and then end up physically and mentally abused. Dude even ripped up her passport making it harder for her to leave.
I knew a white girl who was going to “move to” Dubai after graduating due to her aspirations of a “higher income.”
I guess the grass is mostly not greener on the other side
I’m glad that she is getting out of that god awful country.
Welp taking that off my travel list.
Some expats who work in the UAE call it “Little Sparta” because it relies on slavery and their 2nd class mindset toward anyone not from there.
Fun fact, a common way for locals to get petty with non citizens is to accuse them of cursing at them. It’s a criminal charge that will ensure you see the inside of a UAE jail.
A Danish reality celebrity was arrested in Dubai for infidelity. I think she was technically still married with an Iranian muslim but they were no longer together when her ex husband reported her to the authorities in Dubai when he found out she was there.
She was examined physically for evidence of potential fidelity. She was in prison in Dubai for like 3 days but weren’t able to leave Dubai for multiple months while the case was ongoing.
She was arrested the 30th of November 2023. I think she was allowed to leave Dubai around February/March
The UAE is a revolting pile of stinking bastards
Does it mean a death penalty for an attempted suicide has been avoided?
Stay away from Dubai
Dubai is making transit hub for sanctions busting financial and goods transactions. Route payment to Dubai and it will go to other places bypassing sanctions
You know what? Now I’m going to suicide even harder.
Attempted su!c!de? Believe it or not, jail.
