  1. an interesting paragraph from the Pew survey about Russia, NATO and Ukraine

    >Turks are quite negative toward Russia and Putin: More than six-in-ten express an unfavorable view of Russia or have no confidence in its leader. Those on the **ideological left are more likely than those on the right to have a negative opinion of Russia and to lack confidence in Puti**n. And those who have **a favorable opinion of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan are about twice as likely to express a positive view of Russia as those who have an unfavorable view of Erdoğan.**

nice to see that the Turkish opposition hates Russia

can any Turk give me more information on that?

is it just the fact that the opposition is pro-Western or do you guys see the similarities between Putin and Erdogan?

Or is something else that makes Turkish opposition supporters half as likely to like Russia as Erdogan supporters?

  2. This show a rise in approval but also that approval or not, it doesn’t matter.

It’s not like Turkey wasn’t part of it while more then 2 out of 3 turks didn’t want to stay, they would have to help others anyway if a war started.

  3. Half hardline militarism popular vote. Half pro-western sentiment split the pro-nato

  4. Hm, what happened in 2014 to have such a spike in unfavorable opinions?

  5. Highly questionable. There are barely any changes with other countries opinions’ since 2019 why would Türkiye double ?

Russia-Ukraine war is barely in the local media and there’s no political divide on the country’s neutral approach to the war.

Survey methodology seems to be the same so most likely they asked the question in a misleading way.

  6. I expect this to have happened in the entire western world since the start of the war in Ukraine.

Sweden went from 200+ years of avoiding alliances to joining NATO.

  7. I think the reason why they view NATO negatively may be America’s occupation of Afghanistan. I don’t remember any other example in history where NATO was mobilized. America’s desire to leave NATO may have increased the positive opinion towards NATO.

There is no thought about NATO in the government or the opposition. The CHP chairman said that if they won, they could impose sanctions or even declare war on Russia. They received a negative response from the voters and changed their minds. Russia, Ukraine or NATO are not on the agenda in any way. Politicians no longer talk about this issue and just watch the outcome. Erdogan said that the war will end and be mediated, and he is holding talks for this. It is generally said that America is trying to prolong the war by provoking the West. Turkey has a lot of investments in Ukraine and Russia. The prolongation of the war does not reflect positively on Türkiye.

  8. Key issue is the support of FETÖ and the PKK is an issue. FETÖ is a bizarre cult that originally put Erdogan into power and after a power struggle, FETÖ followers are crying being victims of purges and still psychotically obsessing about re-infiltrating institutions in Turkey. The FETÖ followers (specifically Enes Kanter and Abdullah Bozkurt) are not real true dissidents. They are fake opponents like China’s Falun Gong or the Iranian MEK terror group. Only true dissidents are HDP followers and Osman Kavala. Minority rights activists too.

On the PKK issue, it is true Kurds and Minorities in general in Western Asia have been opressed, but i believe sometimes the PKK is hijacking the Kurdish cause. But that shouldn’t be an excuse to avoid a peaceful resolution to the Kurdish issue.

  9. Awesome. They are still a large and strategically important member of NATO, politics aside
