It’s a non-air breathing target, it has no rights. An object flying fast through the air on a trajectory to kill Ukrainians – how the fuck is **defending** against these objects any different to say when Iran fired 200 missiles at Israel and UK,France,USA,Jordan all shot them down on Israel’s behalf?
I think this is far more serious and is a subtle message for the Poles rather than for Ukraine. He is essentially saying to Poland, do what you want but if you shoot down missiles over Ukraine and then get hit by Russian missiles as a consequence, don’t come crying to us about it.
By calling it an escalation he is setting the boundaries on what’s not covered by article 5 as far as the US is concerned.
As much as I disagree with this, and hate Sullivan’s guts, I hope the European powers don’t concede on this and we move forwards towards a no fly zone.
