Stoltenberg: ‘Russia has no right whatsoever’ to react against NATO’s support for Ukraine

this week’s NATO Summit was supposed to be President Biden’s celebration on the world stage it was overshadowed though by his political crisis as all the talk among world leaders was about whether the president would even be the Democratic candidate by the time of the Convention as NATO’s Secretary General Yen Stenberg completed a consequential decades long tenure as leader of the alliance I talked to him last night about that and about the summit’s big achievements for the first time calling out China as a decisive enabler of Vladimir Putin’s War Machine and setting a pathway an irreversible pathway for Ukraine’s membership in NATO how can you assure that this will happen for Ukraine NATO membership given some of the members including Hungary and potentially Donald Trump might not agree the language in the statement about irreversible path towards membership is important for Ukraine but the reality is that more important is uh what we do the actions so action speaks louder than words and we have uh taken many important actions delivering more weapons more air defense uh more ammunition to Ukraine we are setting up a NATO command for Ukraine and we’re setting up a new training and evoluation Center in Poland these are concrete things which will help Ukraine to Prevail as a sovereign independent nation and that’s the only way for Ukraine to become a member that’s that that Putin doesn’t win but the Ukraine prevails what right do Russia have to move aggressively against this new structure for Ukraine Russia has no right whatsoever to react against NATO allies providing support to Ukraine uh we are not party to the conflict we don’t have troops in Ukraine uh but what we are doing is that we’re helping Ukraine to uphold the rout for self-defense Russia has violated international law they have attacked another country Ukraine and according to international law uh and basic what I say ethic standards you have the right to defend yourself when you are attacked and Ukraine is attacked and they are defending themselves and we are helping them to uphold that right what can NATO do to prevent China from continuing to support Vladimir Putin China is a decisive enabler of Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine because China is propping up the Russian war economy they’re delivering almost all the microelectronics the the the microor processors the Dual use equipment which enables uh Russia to build the weapons the the missiles the planes which Russia is using to attack uh ukrainians and we also state in this uh declaration that this will impact uh China’s interest and reputation is it just words do you think member nations should have sanctions against China for the support to Vladimir Putin well also declarations uh words matters because they set an agenda that they fine policy then of course uh uh it is it’s up to allies to implement uh sanctions and and economic measures but we have now a clear unified message and that’s a clear message to uh Beijing China what concerns are you hearing we’re certainly hearing from NATO allies that they are very concerned about Donald Trump’s presidency well NATO is an alliance of 32 democracies and uh you don’t have guarantees and we are different we are from different countries from with different political parties in in government but NATO has proven extremely resilient to political Changing Winds across the lines for decades for 75 years and I expect that the United States will remain a strong NATO Ally also in the future because it is in the security interest of the United States to have a strong NATO you’ve known President Biden for many years how would you assess his ability to perform and contribute to the summit Al I worked with President Biden also when he was uh uh vice president um we have had very good meetings now here in Washington we have made important decisions on the ter and defense on Ukraine on stepping up our uh support and partnership with the asia-pacific partners uh but I will not go into a domestic debate uh which is now going on in the United States how did you feel when you got the medal of freedom that was a great honor and I felt very uh uh as I felt it very strongly that this was a touching moment and I was very surprised because I was not aware that that this was going to happen uh but they managed to surprise you they managed to surprise me the US is very good at keeping secrets so so that’s a moment I will remember uh for the rest of my life finally do you have any more appreciation for American baseball after throwing out that first pitch yeah very much so because I’ve never had any relationship to American baseball before then touched the baseball before before I actually started to exercise a bit before that first pitch and uh you practiced I practiced because I realized uh that this was different than anything I’ve done before so I did some practice I I feel that I still have a very long way to go to really become a baseball player but it was a great thing to do well congratulations Mr Secretary General thank you so much hey there MSNBC fans I’m Luke russer and be sure to join me Rachel mat Jen 1. Russia has no rights to react on NATO support of Ukraine but NATO have the right to react when China ,North Korea and Russia doing business, western countries think that they can colonies the world again.

  2. But wait a minute, Joe Biden just said that Vladimir Putin was the president of Ukraine, well zelinski was standing right next to him on live TV😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  3. Did you see how the crowd clapped for president Putin at the latest Nato summit? They love Mr. Putin. Mr. Putin is the president of Ukraine and the best ❤️💪🏻

  4. The Global south has lost all moral high ground by now supporting the genocidal war of conquest of the bloodiest imperialist European power Russia who is trying to rebuild its Evil Empire from its former colonial possessions.

  5. To stop ukraine war and stop ukaine and russia people from dying, is this the best NATO can do ???? – supply more war weapons and money to ukraine to continue the war??? Fight till russia and its people perished?? This is ego politics Not peace. Nato , Europe and US you are EVIL.

  6. Keep giving more aid to Ukraine for nothing. I would think if Ukraine moves forward with NATO Russia will destroy Ukraine. We just go around bullying other countries while they make relationships.

  7. Mr. Stoltenberg is escalating the EU to nuclear war with Russia. The world knows that Nato membership means the deployment of nuclear missiles in Ukraine which is an existential threat to Russia. The Cuban missile crisis is playing again.

  8. NATO wants nuclear war it is clearer today than ever before! NATO wants to surround Russia. What happened when one Russian ship arrived in Cuba recently? Will America ever allow Russia, China, or Iran support Mexico, South America, Cuba, or Haiti? Mutually assured destruction is not something we should be playing with. However "NATO" wants nuclear war they're not interested in peace. They want China next they're doing the same thing with Taiwan but I digress!

  9. It’s a war your create your he can do what he wants actually very patient methodical approach very calculated you go war with Russia you go war with BRICS lots of these countries wants to hurt USA to do a bunches off warmonger you have a change very early to avoid it Boris Johnson NATO always 👀 for War instead of negotiating it’s will definitely hurt your images for decades to come no more Trade War you will never get the trust back how the Americans likes traveling will affect theirs live and tourism industry will take a hit more jobs lost more bankruptcy more empty buildings this is what’s you looking for lots of theses countries have money into market they will take away you will look like 3 world countries by the way you never win a war lots of body bags for which
