  1. Souvenirs. The previous owner hiked (or claimed to have hiked) to the places named in the pins. They can be bought at towns and tourist attractions on popular hiking routes. They’re not so popular now that cheap cameras — especially now that literally everyone has a digital camera they take everywhere with them — mean you can prove you have been to amazing places in a more colourful fashion.

  2. those are achievements from different places where the stick (with its owner) has been to

    edit: souvenirs

  3. my grandfather had a walking stick like this. not sure its a thing today.

  4. Every plate symbolises an unruly youth that has been brought to heel by the power of this Spazierstock.

  5. My grandfather on my father’s side hiked a lot and he had canes like these. He even gave me ones and added these wherever he could get them during hikes or on vacation. Have those back at my parents house tucked away

  6. Sometimes souvenirs you can simply buy.

And sometimes trophies. You still need to pay for those but you need a Wanderbuch with the correct stamp marks in it. You will find the stamps (Stempel, which prints a symbol, not Briefmarken or stickers) in a small box at special locations, like the summit of a mountain.

Achievement unlocked: visited all summits in the region (for example).
