Good morning everyone. My place has couple of smoke alarms. One of them went off several times in a row without anysmoke in the middle of the night. I had to take out the battery and re-apply it in order to reset it. It also went off a few hours later. I checked the battery and saw the 9V go down to 8.9V, which is not significant imo. My questions are:
+ What could be the reasons for it? I attached the photo of that nasty boi here.
+ Am I in trouble if I remove it until Monday? Will try to get help on it.
Tusen takk og god helg ❤

Where are they placed? Steam can sometimes set those off. And is it in a larger house? They are possible to connect to each other, so even if the smoke is not there, it can be at a different room or flat.
Dust might cause false alarms. You could try to vacuum it carefully.
If that doesn’t help, you’ll just have to replace it. And if you rent, it’s you landlord’s responsibility.
Check the production date of the alarm (should be on the back) – if it’s close to, or over, 10 years, it should be changed anyway and that’s probably the reason.
1. Is it linked to mains electricity as well as battery backup? Disruption to mains can cause false alarms.
2. Is there another detector/carbon monoxide detector/light situated within 300mm of this device? Can also cause false alarms.
3. The device itself is more than likely faulty/needs replaced regardless of battery.
4. Yes you would be in trouble…if someone caught you.

Those cheap smoke detectors just don’t last for long unfortunately. Gave up on some similar ones myself and bought some more solid ones.
This happens to us all the time. It is caused by high humidity. Your options are to run the heating/AC in order to lower the humidity (which is expensive in terms of electricity but if your house is wood potentially a good idea anyway to reduce rot) or to position the smoke alarms in better ventilated areas such as by windows etc… (which will make them work less well as smoke alarms). You could also buy a dehumidifier but if you have a heat pump it’s probably going to be just as cheap and more effective to simply run the heat pump – some even have a dehumidify mode.
Some problems are only solved with a hammer.
Try changing batteries maybe it doesn’t like the battery or smth
Battery should be above 9V, so get a new one. Look at the date in the back of the unit as well.
Check the date on it. If it does not have one, or the date is 10 years or more ago, it needs to be replaced.
Otherwise if the new battery doesn’t resolve the issue, it may have malfunctioned.
You should get a proper smoke alarm. The one you have is a cheap and unreliable one, not recommended by fire departments.
These ones are accepted by my local fire department: [https://cavius.no/cavius-tradlos-familie/tradlos-roykvarsler/](https://cavius.no/cavius-tradlos-familie/tradlos-roykvarsler/)
