Mitsotakis: We cannot rely solely on the Americans for defense – Greece spends over 2% of GDP

1. How can the Greeks justify all this military spending despite their debt level?

2. There are a whole bunch of European politicians who have been saying this for years now. At what point are they going to stop making public statements and start spending? Building out their militaries? Building out weapons manufacturing supply chains? Buying all kinds of logistics vehicles? conscripting more soldiers?

3. The US has been saying this for like two decades but I’m glad Europe finally checked its fax machine and got the message.

   The idea that Europe thought it was entitled to be totally defended by the US is just so insane to me

4. A unified, cohesive European Military force has been put forward by a number of top EU politicians. It’s a decent idea, but doomed to fail. Until such a time where countries can stop bickering with each other and finding fault in each other, a unified military is impossible. I hope that EU members begin to take defense spending more seriously, because it’s never too late to begin protecting yourselves.

   Unfortunately, the EU military industry has taken hard hits over the past three decades, as it shrank from little use. Fortunately there is still a defense industry, however small it is, yet it is still powerful. So, the foundation is there, now it’s time to really put money behind it’s reinvigoration.

   I see some politicians putting out statements declaring these things. I hope more follow suite. Unfortunately, rebuilding the EU defense industry and rearming militaries is an expensive and time consuming process. I hope they are serious in their intent, but time will tell. The US and the EU must stand strong together, as equals and friends.

5. As an American, I have been saying this since before most of you were born. I want to have a strong Euro-American bloc for defense — Russia-China-N.Korea-(and now)India is a real danger.
