  1. A person with one million dollars is not super rich… Actually tax the super rich this time.

  2. An then they go like their companies to some island state to stop paying taxes there and the money is missing the system of the G20… I don’t know if this is helpful…

  3. Might have been more useful if they’d done this *before* they became ex-leaders.

  4. Do only bots read free articles these days? In any case, without a global minimum tax these efforts are doomed to fail — from the article:

    > Brazil’s proposal, crafted by French economist Gabriel Zucman from the independent EU Tax Observatory, calls for an annual 2% levy on fortunes exceeding $1 billion, which could raise up to $250 billion annually from about 3,000 individuals.

  5. Ex-leaders telling leaders to do what they did not do…
In another news, Bush Jr asking current leaders not to invade any countries for made up reasons.

  6. Why all those ex-someone always have good ideas but never when they’re in positions of power 🤔

  7. The fucking MOMENT they leave politics, they all go “hey, I think we should tackle climate change and tax the rich”.

  8. The super rich are the true enemy of this world. Preventing climate science and sentencing every human to death; creating conflicts in countries for wealth growth; creating culture wars among citizens to prevent class wars against the rich. Defeating the super rich would help everyone on Earth immensely.

  9. It’s almost like they’re taunting us at this point

    “Tax us if you can!”

  10. Public: Tax the rich
    Ex Leaders: Tax the rich
    Sensible rich people: Tax us
Rich psychopaths who ‘donate’ to politicians: Give us tax breaks

Outcome: Tax breaks for the rich

  11. Everyone has the balls to do the right thing when they’re out of office and can’t.

  12. Lol this has been the same rhetoric for the past 20 years. Same headline different day

  13. Funny how divorce attorneys and angered spouses can calculate portfolios more accurately than a governor entity.

Maybe mckanzie scott and roh so-young should set up a service to help international tax authorities figure out assets of the rich

  14. Tax them after we worked with them to get rich ourselves!

  15. People who are easily bought by lobbyists of rich people call for taxation on said rich people.

  16. How about we also look at the out of control spending, too? Maybe we can reach some kind of a balance.

  17. They always get starter and more reasonable *after* leaving office. Gee, thanks.

  18. “the super rich” meaning people with government ties will never be taxed. this is the world we live in.

  19. So Brazil wants to tax billionaires world wide and some other countries support it. I’d love to see what anti corruption measures they will agree to.

  20. When are tankies gonna get it inside their head that excessive taxing doesn’t work and only results in lower tax income for the state.

  21. It can’t be about liquid income.

The amount of capital that a person possesses has to have a consequence to it.
Otherwise many of the super rich, rely on credit for disposable cash.

There has to be another mechanism in place that accounts for a persons/companies holdings.

  22. “no” – politicians happily leashed at the feet of the rich.

  23. I mean yeah, lets do that. Lets also stop giving them so much of our tax dollars for free too.

  24. People who got rich by taxing others think more taxes is a good idea.

    Yawn.

  25. But can’t just the rich people put the money in a trust and no one can touch it? or tax havens?

The only people you can actually tax would be public shareholders who can easily sell their shares slowly and funnel them to trusts or tax havens.

There is always a way around stuff like this and the ultra rich are not shmucks.
