Project 2025 will pave the way to bring these conditions to the US.
Are they not allowed to quit? Is it still better than anything else their country can offer them?
Used to work for Amazon for 8 years. Very toxic environment and good at manipulating you to think everything is fine.
Not surprised. My boss at my job has a total shit fit when I take my 2nd of 2 breaks every day. I’ve filed complaints about him on it, and no one cares. Just sad.
Worked at Amazon in the UK for a few months… can’t recommend it, you are treated like a number and they don’t like it if you show signs of humanity, don’t even dare try to go for a piss because heaven forbid you don’t meet your pick/pack targets, I’m glad I managed to quickly find something else and escape that miserable place.
Pretty simple.
Everyone walk out and cancel there subscription. If the mindless would learn that the collective power of the dollar can drive change, but know, “I need these things right to make me happy.”
This is not new news. At all.
Amazon is a terrible company that is destroying the world – small businesses have closed, people have lost good jobs in favor of shit Amazon jobs, they are anti-union, they create megatonnes yearly of plastic waste, and the carbon footprint is huge to bring a $2 item from China to the US to sell to us at rock bottom prices. Literally buy your shit anywhere else.
Listen up Jillian Harris! We’re looking at you!😡
Sitting is literally looked down upon/not allowed
Been at an Amazon for 4.5 years. I work 4 ten hour shifts a week. I get an unpaid 30 minute break after 3 hours and then a paid 30 minute break 4 hours later. The break rooms have vending machines, chairs, tables and air conditioning.
There’s purified water dispensers every 50 feet in the building that dispense ice cold water with paper cups. You’re allowed to carry around a clear water bottle. There’s fans literally everywhere.
I was loading trucks in the back of a hot semi trailer yesterday in 105 degree weather and my manager personally swapped me out every 30 minutes to sort boxes in front of a fan while he loaded the truck.. every 30 minutes for ten hours.
With the PTO and UPT system, I can bank up time and walk out the door without telling anyone whenever I want and keep my job. Just mark your time in an app.
I get 25 cent to 1 dollar raises every 6 months. The insurance is actually pretty decent for yourself (not your whole family)
Amazon isn’t nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It’s just normal warehouse work.
This is why OSHA, and other government regulatory agencies definitely need defunded. /s
10 hours no breaks ….sounds like consruction.
Amazon INDIA so they’re probably just following local guidelines
So an important piece here, this is specifically talking about Amazon in India. I’m not saying Amazon is without issues, but I know in the U.S the breaks are very baked into the flow of work, it’s EVERYONE in a department going to break at the same time from a given department at the same time every day
Not that that makes this any more ok, in fact it’d be a lot worse for a variety of reasons, the obvious ones being that it’s really hot there and economic conditions mean fewer alternatives, but I know Reddit tends to be pretty US centric and even in worldnews, a lot of people read headlines and assume it’s in the US
Macys warehouse is similar
This isn’t news. The story about Amazon workers came out more than a few years ago.
I work at a convenience store. The only thing I have that they don’t is water.
I also used to work in restaurants. Also only had water, and I usually had to bring my own.
Gotta establish that baseline to compare with robots.
Kiss my ass AMZN
They aren’t forcing anyone to work there
Unionize. Be fucking disruptive. Passive aggression against your employer is not a crime.
Probably more a reflection of Indian labor conditions in general than Amazon specifically
If a monster like Henry Ford could figure out that an 8-hour work day, living wage, and regular rest breaks were good for corporate profits, why can’t anyone else?
Accused? Hasnt it been confirmed ages ago?
Amazon is Evil.. wish people would stop using it
Sounds about the same for every corporate job I’ve had.
I have worked 10 hours shifts before in Automotives on my feet and it can be tiring. I used overtime money for an extra fast food meal and recovery on Friday nights. In hindsight time went by fast but its can take a toll on your legs over time. Rest is key. All the best. 🤍🖤💜
This is nothing, during pecan season the company I work for has us do 12-14 hour shifts in shipping dept. with no breaks and often times skipping our lunch break. This is a US based company btw.
I hear conflicting stories about warehouse work at Amazon. There are the stories about the terrible working conditions and the mind numbing tedium. Yet I also hear about their bringing robots into the workplace and the lost jobs with pictures of workers sobbing in the parking lots. The conflict arises because while I understand the pain of losing a job, it sounded like they should be relieved that they’re not working under those conditions. While replacing humans with robots seems unfair, perhaps those aren’t jobs humans should work. There’s a desire for instant gratification by people nowadays. The deliveries that normally took two weeks to order, process, and ship; we want same day delivery. It is a conundrum.
Wait! I’ve seen this before…
They’ve BEEN accused of this for years now.
A fucked up thing is that they get around it by saying all those things are offered and it’s just the workers not taking them. And that they have every opportunity to do those things except there’s an algorithm that they must follow to meet their goals for the day which basically make sure you can’t take breaks or have any of those things you can have those things but you will be fired if you do so. They’re basically trying to skirt the law and creating a false choice or if they do exercise their workers right they will be fired but not because they were exercising their rights but because they fell short of the goals set by an algorithm, not the company you see it’s all computer based. Basically they’re trying to skirt around the law until lawmakers say hey you can’t be using computer generated algorithms to deny people their rights and then it becomes a messy situation of trying to prove if that was intentional or not, they tone down the numbers hire more people temporarily, just to ramp them up slowly again and fire all the excess staff, especially the old ones who rallied to make things Fair again. Jeff bezos is an evil motherfucker.
Same type of articles pop up for Walmart too. I worked their DC for 3 years as a 2nd job on weekends. Hard work but wasn’t as bad as written up sometimes. I think some just don’t know how to work hard. Like most we move on and up to better pay and easier work.
That’s why the service is so bad.
