Biden's address is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Eastern.

A Biden campaign aide previewed the address, saying "Today, President Biden will give a forceful and needed address to update the nation on the horrifying attack on Donald Trump and the need for every American to come together to not just condemn, but put an end to political violence in this country once and for all. Tomorrow, he will expand on this vision in a primetime interview with Lester Holt. Following the president's interview Monday evening, both the DNC and the campaign will continue drawing the contrast between our postiive vision for the future and Trump and Republicans' backwards-looking agenda over the course of the week."

  1. Upper hand. Better person. Respectful. etc etc

    Will lose because of it

  2. I doubt he’ll say this, but he should probably indicate that wherever Trump goes, chaos and violence invariably follows.

(Should he IMPLY he is an agent of Nyarlathotep? Yes, but without directly stating it.)

  3. Proud of Joe for how he has handled this. I only wish a lot of other people could follow his lead. The absolute horrendous garbage I’ve seen from too many is not only disheartening, but also optically disastrous (looking at you Destiny).

  4. Remember, if the memes hit young people’s phones, it means they pay attention to politics and are more inclined to vote, hope that can help Biden

  5. It’s a shame Biden is putting out multiple respectful statements about this assassination attempt, since we all know Trump is going to blame Biden at the RNC this week.

  6. A sitting president addresses the nation twice to attempt to hinder a violent rhetoric that his opponent constantly stokes and ultimately paid for, and these comments are just FILLED with astroturfing saying how Biden is gonna lose because of it.

What an embarrassing time to be alive.

  7. I wish I could just fast forward the next four months

  8. Biden’s been inconsistent with this, such as most dems.

They project Trump to be the second coming of Hitler, and then they offer their best condolences to him.

In their minds, they’re offering their best condolences to Hitler, so either they’re full of shit, or just morons.

  9. I implore his aides to give him a lot of the conspiratorial super president drug the conservatives claim he’s on before this because this is one of the most pivotal moments that he *cannot* appear low energy or “weak.”

Please for the love of God let this go well.

  10. What type of interview is this, is there gonna be a crowd?

  11. just about any of us could write a speech they always give when this happens. this was a horrible act and we don’t condone violence yada yada yada… This is not who ware are as Americans blah blah blah.

  12. Fingers crossed he doesn’t call him Vice President

  13. >Following the president’s interview Monday evening, both the DNC and the campaign will continue drawing the contrast between our postiive vision for the future and Trump and Republicans’ backwards-looking agenda over the course of the week.

I thought they were pausing campaigning?

  14. President coming in to do Presidential things and remind us there is far more uniting us than dividing us, and our shared abhorrence for political violence is just one of the many things we all agree on if we stop and think about it for a second.

  15. Crank the prompter up to 11 and he better not get cutiepie in answering questions at the end this is not a drill

  16. Mike Johnson asking to dial the rhetoric down is HILARIOUS.

  17. I want civility in politics too but the statements being made by Mike Johnson on CNN as a call for civility are incredulous and laughable.

The both siding by CNN is also disappointing.

  18. When is the media going to call out the Republicans when they say both sides do this? Do your fucking job.

Dehumanizing in politics – yea Jake big fucking difference when it’s randoms on the internet vs. leaders.

  19. Social media and 24 hour-a-day news or a functioning country. Pick one, you can’t have both.

  20. Its too late for a reconciliation . Its like someone taking a few swings at another person then being like dude cant we just get along? They do this because they fear what might come next. In this case Trump is going to win easily and this attempt has given him every right to now actually start solving some of the problems in the US.

I have no doubt they will try something else to stop him though.

  21. Good on David Axelrod for bringing up Trump’s rhetoric.

  22. Do we honestly think if that happened to Biden, Trump would come out and be sympathetic? Think he would call off his rabid base? We all know the answer

  23. Fucking republicans beat us over the head with our own language. “Don’t blame the victim.”

    Fucking hell.

  24. I doubt he will do much campaigning tonight. You don’t go after your opponent from the Oval Office like this, or even say anything about the campaign other than it will continue again, starting tomorrow I hope. Dems can’t let this stop the campaign. they can change their tone, make it a little softer, but you need to keep it going, especially during the RNC.

You can bet your bottom dollar that Trump and his people will be hitting dems during the DNC next month. Dems need to contrast the RNC with a positive message showing the dem’s ideas contrasting with the republicans.

  25. In a discussion about easing back on the rhetoric and watching what is said, 2 CNN analysts just nearly got into an argument.

  26. you can see the reflection of the teleprompter in the window behind him

  27. Watching this from a bar prior to the Copa America – let’s see if others react one way or another.

  28. And Trump’s campaign is going to turn right around and call “Former Trump” a call to violence.

  29. “Former trump is not seriously injured”.

I hate it when I forget a word too.

  30. the audio editor definitely removed all the “ummms” and “president putins”

  31. Was this really pre recorded? That’s all over social media.

  32. If this is pre-taped and this is the ‘best take’… YIKES

  33. It would have been smarter to tape this, but they are doing it live? Lol former Trump

  34. Pretty close to the old bed time, sure the teleprompter will be a struggle.
