  4. Watch. As if he wasn’t already cooked, watch him ease off of calling Trump a threat to democracy since that’d ‘make things worse’ no matter how accurate that assessment is over the next week.

  9. This is a huge Biden, he can keep things calmish and sound coherent then he may still stand a chance. If even comes close to messing up though and makes things worse with a comment then yesterday cemented Trumps presidency.

  10. Anyone think this could actually be good for Biden politically? He has his gaffes but is inoffensive and provides stability and a level head. This takes more attention away from the debate, and shows he can be a voice of reason in a crisis

    Trump is chaos. I think many average people don’t want chaos, and Trump’s base is more fired up but no one is voting for him that wasn’t already

  13. The Biden campaign is definitely happy about the trump noise serving as a distraction for those calling him to drop out.

  15. What I would love to see is Biden and Trump together, unscripted, no politics, no posturing just two leaders coming together and showing some humanity, assuring Americans we’ll be OK and we are all in the same team. That’s what we need.

  16. Honestly, this is his opportunity to rise to the moment and lead. This country is exhausted by political divisions. He must come across as strong, unifying, and comforting. He cannot afford to muck this up.

    “Folks, last night was totally unacceptable. Regardless of your affiliation, we have to condemn the actions of the shooter. This is bigger than all of us, a young man that may have been mentally ill, obtained a weapon and was able to get within striking distance of a former President.

    I understand tensions are high and that there is a lot on the line with this election. If you want to beat Donald Trump, beat him at the polls. I was able to speak to the former President and wished him well and a speedy recovery. I hope to see him again soon on the campaign trail.

    As with so many incidents in the past, I’m calling for Congress to pass stricter regulations to make sure this doesn’t happen again. I hope my Republican colleagues are now open to working with us. We must show a united front.”

  19. Maybe I’m misremembering, but have we had an official oval office address in a long time? I don’t remember if Trump or Obama ever did them, they’d usually do a press conference in that usual room or the hallway Obama announced bin Laden’s death.

    Edit: looks like Biden and the last two guys did them but very rarely. Dubya seems to have done as many as the last three combined.

  26. Strangely, it all of a sudden feels less likely that Biden is stepping out of the race or that a coup is happening. I don’t know why. Anyone else?
