Bernie is wrong. Now more than ever it is necessary for Biden to step down for us to have a chance at beating Trump.
No. He’s not electable. We need someone else as the nominee if we want to actually beat Trump. Beating Trump matters more than pandering to Joe’s massive ego
Agree.
How about all the octogenarians step aside for younger leadership, or at least stop telling us the valid concerns about age aren’t real.
Bernie shouldnt be in office either.
In my opinion, Biden’s reelection chances just got even worse. Now Trump is able to contrast his bloodied, fist-pumping self against a gaping mouthed and confused Biden. The only way the Dems take back the narrative of this election is if Biden steps down and we reboot with a different candidate. I sincerely hope that Biden steps down after the RNC this week. The public effort to get Biden to step down might pause, but I hope that the private effort does not.
I love Bernie. I’m an unapologetic democratic socialist. When Bernie ran for President, I voted for him in the primaries with zero regrets.
But right now, I don’t need an octogenarian telling me I need to just accept another octogenarian.
Biden was behind in the polls before the debate — nationally it may be close, but he was and still is losing every swing state. Huge swathes of voters had concerns about his age and fitness for the role. The GOP’s main avenue of attack against Biden is his age. At the debate, Biden had a singular job: to demonstrate that he was not too old to serve another 4 years by showing he was mentally fit and healthy.
Unfortunately, the debate showed the complete opposite. He has clearly slipped over the last 4 years, and now it’s out in the open for everyone to see. Does he have good days? Sure, but he also, evidently, has some pretty fucking bad days. I’m sorry, but this level of cognitive alertness is simply not acceptable for a candidate seeking to win the office for the next 4 years.
The fundamental question of President Biden’s electability has been answered definitively. President Biden will not gain any swing voters after this debate. And there are many loyal Democrats who cannot ethically vote for an impaired president. Now, we can all cram into this car as it hurtles off the cliff, or we can try to make some changes to save our chances to hold onto at least part of Congress in November.
Not a very democratic thing to say if you ask me.
Nope. It’s time to shove Biden aside if he won’t step aside. Sorry Bernie. I voted for you every time I was able and wish it could’ve been you, but it wasn’t. Biden will lose and we must change course immediately.
Not satisfied with his efforts to help Trump get elected in 2016 Bernie is now gunning to get him elected in 2024.
“Bernie is blue maga” – Reddit lol

>He has been the **most effective president in the modern history of our country and is the strongest candidate to defeat Donald Trump** — a demagogue and pathological liar. It’s time to learn a lesson from the progressive and centrist forces in France who, despite profound political differences, came together this week to soundly defeat right-wing extremism.
>But for over two weeks now, the **corporate media has obsessively focused on the June presidential debate and the cognitive capabilities of a man who has, perhaps, the most difficult and stressful job in the world**. The media has frantically searched for every living human being who no longer supports the president or any neurologist who wants to appear on TV. Unfortunately, too many Democrats have joined that circular firing squad.
>Yes. I know: Mr. Biden is old, is prone to gaffes, walks stiffly and had a disastrous debate with Mr. Trump. But this I also know: **A presidential election is not an entertainment contest. It does not begin or end with a 90-minute debate**.
>Enough! Mr. Biden may not be the ideal candidate, but he will be the candidate and should be the candidate. And with an effective campaign taht speaks to the needs of working families, **he will not only defeat Mr. Trump but beat him badly. It’s time for Democrats to stop the bickering and nit-picking**.
>I understand that some Democrats get nervous about having to explain the president’s gaffes and misspeaking names. But unlike the Republicans, they do not have to explain away a candidate who now has 34 felony convictions and faces charges that could lead to dozens of additional convictions, who has been hit with a $5 million judgment after he was found liable in a sexual abuse case, who has been involved in more than 4,000 lawsuits, who has repeatedly gone bankrupt and who has told thousands of documented lies and falsehoods.
>This is the wealthiest country in the history of the world. We can do better. We must do better. Joe Biden knows that. Donald Trump does not. **Joe Biden wants to tax the rich so that we can fund the needs of working families, the elderly, the children, the sick and the poor. Donald Trump wants to cut taxes for the billionaire class**. Joe Biden wants to expand Social Security benefits. Donald Trump and his friends want to weaken Social Security. **Joe Biden wants to make it easier for workers to form unions and collectively bargain for better wages and benefits. Donald Trump wants to let multinational corporations get away with exploiting workers and ripping off consumers. Joe Biden respects democracy. Donald Trump attacks it.**
>This election offers a stark choice on issue after issue. **If Mr. Biden and his supporters focus on these issues — and refuse to be divided and distracted — the president will rally working families to his side in the industrial Midwest swing states and elsewhere and win the November election**. And let me say this as emphatically as I can: **For the sake of our kids and future generations, he must win**.
Just a question to all the doomers in the sub- which democrat pair that can serve as a replacement to Biden/Harris is polling better than Biden?
It’s easy to say “anyone can replace Biden”, when that anyone is an invisible ghost. Who is polling better? Which actual person has a better chance backed by some source?
I had a grudging sort of respect for Trump supporters in 2016. Here you had a candidate who was an absolutely vile human being and did and said everything possible to take himself out of the race, but voters said no. Screw the polling. We don’t care about his shortcomings. Trump is our guy. And their gamble paid off. He won and his administration altered the future of this country for at least a generation.
Meanwhile Democrats shit their pants at any sign of trouble and never stop to think about the damage it does to the perception of their party.
Trump is a liar, fraud, racist, rapist and according to the new Epstein files released. He’s also a child molester?!… This, however, would fit the profile considering he called his own daughter a piece of ass on the Howard Stern Show long before he was president.
And if you were looking for someone to blame for the abomination, that is Trump and his entire family. Look no further than Mark Burnett, the founding father of reality tv as we know it today. Creator of both Survivor and The Apprentice. He’s the only reason why Trump is even remotely viewed as successful in today’s world.
That being said, if he is reelected, America gets what it deserves!
No. In the face of fascism, we need a stronger candidate.
I notice that what is very very absent from all of these “shut up and support biden” messages is this: how does biden plan on changing the momentum of the race despite behind in the polls practically his entire campaign? Like what exactly is he doing to fix that?
I love Bernie, but no.
I understand and respect his strategy here, but I think he’s wrong. Biden is a failing candidate who will never be better than today. A fresh candidate would have less baggage and far more charisma.
The people who would vote for Biden will vote D either way, but a new candidate would pull more swing votes and potentially more people who wouldn’t vote.
Push hard now, and don’t go softly into the night.
Why is that the only choice rather than insisting that Biden drop out? I never had the option of a real choice in this election and let’s face it, Biden is fading fast. We can do a lot better.
How about Bernie just goes away? Time for some younger folks in office.
Just because the other candidate is awful, it doesnt mean you shouldnt find the best candidate possible.
Biden just doesnt have the strength to be a good candidate and president and that is normal. He is 81 years old. People stop driving and making decisions by themselves at that age
DNC screwed him and put us in this position we are in. Nobody wanted Hillary. Bernie had a chance. All that straight talking stuff that Trump was admired for, Bernie has been doing forever. He had a better chance than Hillary.
DNC is funded by the same entrenched wealthy interests that want status quo and who also fund a lot of republicans.
For Bernie to back Biden is baffling. It is absolutely clear that the US needs not-old-fking-white-men in charge, at least for 4-8 years.
Sanders wants the party to accept almost the lowest standards imaginable. No thanks.
I think ignoring concerns people have with a candidate is bad actually
I think ignoring concerns people have with a candidate is bad actually
Hard disagree. Stand up for what you think is right. If that’s no Biden, then say it.
It’s really funny how people will praise Bernie and his vision, hell I’ve seen people even saying that they’d rather have him run, but the moment he calls the or the simple request of unity is where the line is drawn and he too is painted as a villain. Hey, AOC has supported Biden too is she also in need of the boot or has she been “corrupted” in some way? Is she and Bernie now considered “Blue MAGA”
People in this sub have no capability for reflection, aren’t open to cooperation, and seem completely incapable of seeing a bigger picture. This mindset of my way or the high is almost on par with Republicans.
Y’all would rather destroy the country with unrealistic ideas than just stand behind the guy who has won the primaries, done the campaigning, and has signed the legislation. You would rather fall victim to the illusion of instant perfect than work and progress on good with the realistic possibility of great.
It’s a damned if you do or don’t situation, because I’m not sure Biden will beat Trump, but I can’t imagine what replacement will. The best thing that could have happened is him announcing he won’t run again a year ago and allowed the party to have an open primary with debates to choose new leadership. Biden’s clearly too stubborn to drop out, and I’m not really sure there’s a way to force him to move aside that won’t cause further internal fracturing in the party.
I just wish we can all think pragmatically about this versus clutching our pearls. I’d love to have someone else. Heck, if Biden is degrading so fast, we might have someone else soon. But all of our choices are backing Biden (whether it’s due to not wanting to lose to Trump on such short notice, genuinely believing Biden can do it, or foolishly believing there will be honest campaigns in 2028 if trump wins). If Biden doesn’t step down or if everyone nominates him, we have to do all we can to make sure he, or whoever is the nominee wins so we can build up the people we want to run in 2028. If we just pout and refuse to vote or vote third party if Biden or a nominee you don’t like goes on to fight trump, Trump will win and we can kiss the future goodbye.
Why is it always only him and like a handful of others with a voice of reason these days? I’m not even politically educated and I’m screaming at the tv these days. Moronic
He needs to gtfo as long all the rest of the senior citizens. Fuck these boomers.
I’m trying. But youth voters are idiots and you can see the comments here.
They are going to put Trump in office for a second time
Ffs the dems have absolutely no idea at all. The party backing Clinton in 2016 when she was clearly on the nose with the public in general and the all important swinging voters. Now, today they once again are making the same mistake with backing a candidate who (for different reasons) is highly unlikely to win. I’m struggling to understand exactly who and how many people in the party are behind decisions of this nature. Is it a handful of old and influential politicians? Or is it like the 90% plus spineless republican politicians simply bending the knee to the king because they want votes for their seats? They (as a party) just seem so out of touch with what people in the real world hear, see and think.
He’s right. Although I’m not happy about it.
But back in 2016 the Dems lost to the GOP cause they were too busy fighting amongst themselves between Hilary and Bernie while the GOP rallied behind Trump.
Now it’s going to happen again. With Democrats split on getting Biden to reelect or step down for a different candidate. Meanwhile GOP is back in full force behind Trump.
I’m sure the GOP will gladly let the Dems struggle internally while they put Project 2025 into action. If Biden stays in the race, I’m voting for him. Trump cannot be allowed back in office.
No thanks
Project 2025 should terrify everyone!
He’s too old
Bernie is not your friend, he never was.
It’s game over Bernie.
Biden’s ace in the hole was convincing voters this guy’s a threat to democracy and a fascist. Think he’s going to be shouting that anymore?
Joe had 4 years to groom his replacement. He didn’t. Now were here. Am I happy? Fuck no but it is what it is.
Unite and support Biden or trump wins. It’s really really really simple. Nobody else stands a remote chance of replacing Biden, let alone win. It’s Olympic levels of mental gymnastics that anyone thinks he could be replaced. Absolutely delusional.
Idk about this bernie man, you know were right in our concerns
My man.
I’m just saying things could not be going more perfect for Trump.
Failed assassination attempt that makes him look like a martyr
Opponent who’s every sound byte slip up makes the news after a disastrous debate performance
An opposing political party that is still infighting to try and replace their current nominee
If Democrats don’t want P2025 happening in 2025 then they need to get their shit together.
Do the needful.
Early voting starts next month in some states, that is like 2 weeks from now, too late to make a change.
bernie can read the tea leaves, he’s been through the blender twice already fighting against “their” decision.
Bernie Sanders is beholden to the DNC, and is therefore a sellout. He proved where his loyalty really lies after his 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns — and all he did here was reaffirm his loyalty.
No surprise there.
