Genuine question though. If Spain win the Euros , what’s stopping Rodri from winning the balon dor?

  1. Ballon d’Or is a PR exercise. It’s not a merit based award anymore.

  2. Madrid bias PR. The ballon dor is mostly a glorified celebrity award by elitists journalists

  3. Not playing in Spain or being Messi is the short answer

  4. He won 4-5 trophies last season and they still gave it to Messi. What a joke. Ballon D’Or doesnt mean anything anymore. It is a PR award, not an achievement one.

  5. English media/Madrid PR. CDMs geney don’t get the level up hype.

  6. The voting is based on PR and narratives. If you have the narrative on your side, you are a huge favorite. Bellingham, for example: Promising English talent with a great first season at the most prestigious club. Scoring many late game winners and winning the CL. Also, he scored two decisive goals in the WC with one being a ridiculous over head kick in the 95th minute. Even if England lose the final, he might have the best shot. If Rodri scores the deciding goal in the Euros final, it might be close. But adding to the narrative: Bellingham is an outspoken, cocky young guy, while Rodri is rather calm, which will also influence the outcome.

  7. Being a midfielder, not winning the UCL and domestic cup I guess? Unlike last year, he has only won one trophy if I remember, don’t get me wrong, this is not hate just saying facts. I think Bellingham or Vinicius might win it this year

  8. The glorified “football journalism” pages that started giving bellingham ballon d’or shouts….*checks notes*…..two months into the season.

  9. Shouldn’t need the Euros to win it in the first place.

Hes the best and most important player on the highest ranked team in football. If that isn’t enough, that’s a flaw in the Ballon D’Or criteria.

  10. Attacker bias

He’ll never win one. Live VVD and Neuer. Just never going to happen.

  11. Madrid’s PR. They made everyone believe Bellingham was the Balon d’Or after 2 good months and ghosting the other 10.

  12. Not being an attacking player, not being from real madrid

  13. Biased journalists who don’t know anything about football apart from the fact that the ball is round and there are 2 goal posts?
