>I’ve already made my case that **Biden should not only withdraw from the 2024 presidential race but also resign and give President Kamala Harris the best chance to win in November.** I stand by it, and I worry that Biden will have more episodes raising questions about his neurological health. **There is still time for Biden to withdraw**, and any Democrat concerned about his ability to campaign and govern effectively should continue to press the case.
I think replacing Biden only really works if there is clear uncontested (or at least only lightly contested) and willing replacement. We cant replace Biden if nobody is willing to step up and nobody has yet to do so.
This article is not bad on the whole. I really question this part though:
All that may well be true, but Biden and Dems have been trying to tout this stuff since well before the wheels fell off the campaign. Biden obviously can’t articulate these favorables (or much else), and the surrogates and politicos aren’t making headway either. It just doesn’t *seem* true to too many Americans who are struggling, and they don’t perceive any of those “favorables” as helping them or, importantly, giving them motivation to go vote. This has been the case for a while now, and I’m not seeing any messaging adjustment or different tactics.
Why just Democrats? How about the Libertarians, Green Party, independents and Republicans who can’t stand Trump?
The negativity bias of liberals is absolutely pathological.
Trump chose his USSS detail personally. Think about the kind of person who would agree to be on Trump’s detail and take a bullet for him. He chose loyalty over competence- because he never wanted the USSS to tell him, “no.”
This is a metaphor for how his administration would be. Loyalists who are incompetent and wind up getting people killed.
I’m going democratic no matter who is there.
GOP voters are literally trying to kill their candidate.
Judge Cannon just dismissed the classified documents case. Hopefully this will light a fire up democrats’ asses to vote.
I mean we have to win. The classified docs case was just dismissed by the nepo-judge Cannon in Florida. If we don’t win, this will be a lawless country in no time.
At this point, the calculus of the game is totally different. While I’ve been saying Biden should step down since the debate, I’m now 100% positive that’s no longer an option. Trump got shot and, while bloody, shouted encouragement to his base on camera. That’s fucking huge.
The incumbent advantage Biden possesses is the *only* thing we’ve got to match that. Not a single other Dem can go toe-to-toe with his usual chicanery bc now even white suburbia will think they’re taking advantage of him after the assassination attempt. It’s bullshit, but you know it’s true.
I saw an article.on the Guardian saying the Democratic party is becoming a Blue MAGA and cult like.
It’s seriously so infuriating to read trash like that. Nobody worships Biden like they do Trump, we just understand the stakes of the election and we can’t lose or we all might literally lose the chance to vote in the future. So much at stake for so many people in this country.
I just wish SOME media outlets would stop shit talking the Democratic nominee for one fucking day.
That’s right. Start back on those attack ads and double down. The time for thoughts and prayers has passed. Time to get back down to the business of reminding them that the shooter is a Conservative Republican.
Yep
That’s what I’m saying.
We have 4 months.
We haven’t forgotten who Trump is.
He can screw up again, and his court ruling is in September.
Lock in. Save democracy.
not exactly sure how trump is even being considered to be pres. its mindblowing anyone wants this unpredictable lunatic anywhere near power again. This Trump Cult has to end.
Republicans are literally eating themselves alive. One Republican constituent just tried assassinating a Republican candidate.
You got this Joe!
President Gerald Ford had two assassination attempts and still lost to Carter.
THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER. VOTE
It never changed, no dem would suddenly vote for trump because of one debate. Fuck cnn
Honestly if the right can get in line around an orange piece of turd…the left should be strategic just a few times…
I know the reality is depressing but a defeatist rhetoric (orange turd had a photo op so he will definitely win) won’t help rallying enthusiasm needed for turnout
If there’s one thing you can count on, is for Donald to completely and totally be unable to garner any sympathy for himself. Even after a failed assassination.
The small but vocal minority of bedwetters and doomsayers in the Democratic “leadership” are killing us.
Sack up and start going after the REAL problem here, aka Donald Trump. The more you whine and whine and whine about replacing Biden, the more the Democrats’ still very real chance for victory slips away. Which is what all the RW sock puppets flooding r/politics lately want, isn’t it? So stop giving them what they want and start fighting to win the election for real with the proven and well-qualified candidate we already have.
I’ve got a grip, these last two news cycles have convinced me to volunteer my large amount of free time with my local Democrat office in hopes of keeping my county blue. If my county goes blue then Michigan as a whole will be blue (the other big counties are solid blue every time).
Can’t be said enough, Fuck Trump and everything he stands for.
I voted for Biden last time. I will vote for Biden again this time. I don’t consider myself a democrat. That said, the Democratic Party sure are a bunch of spineless pussies. Everything turns to crisis mode. There’s literally no cohesion this year, no willingness to roll up the sleeves and just push through the damned door.
We just have to. That’s it. We have to. If Biden doesn’t step down, go fucking hard for Biden. Go hard against Trump. Project the bullet points of Project 2025 everywhere you can. Make this shit loud as fuck. This is for all the marbles
It’s astonishing how quickly dems were ready to roll over on Biden since the debate and after the assassination attempt they’ve been complete doom and gloom when in reality both events will do little to change any voters mind.
The vast majority of Americans have already made up their mind on who they’d prefer one way or the other.
I am voting 💙🇺🇸
People are reeeeeeally overstating the impact Trump being shot at is gonna have electorally. Do you know a single person who was voting Biden before the shooting that is now saying “you know, now that Trump is missing part of his ear I suddenly want to vote for him and agree with the BS he says!”.
Those people don’t exist. I doubt that shooting changes a SINGLE vote to be honest. Not with a figure who was already as polarising as Donald Trump. There is basically nobody left who didn’t already have a strong opinion on the guy. They either already loved him or hated him. A shooting won’t change that imo.
I honestly don’t think anyone changes their minds anymore, not on as binary a choice as these elections come down to these days. The election basically will be decided based on who has died since 2020 and who the newest crop of eligible voters turn out for. I doubt there’s any significant number of people that voted Biden in 2020 that are now gonna vote for Trump instead in 24, and vice versa.
Honestly that’s what gives me some confidence about the election. Biden won so massively last time that I don’t think there’s much to worry about. A LOT of people would have to either change their minds, which people don’t generally do, die, or be a new voter. Otherwise I don’t see the tallies changing a whole hell of a lot. Biden will smash Trump in the popular vote by millions yet again, and probably get around the same electoral score, maybe drop an extra state to Trump this time around. Thing is, Biden could afford to lose not one, not two, but THREE of the swing states he won last time and still win, if I’m remembering right. Thats a large margin for error.
Yeah, honestly this shooting hasn’t changed much. When my wife turned over to me and told me “Trump has been shot!” and then I found out more details, it just reminded me how much I just wish he was irrelevant and gone.
I’m sure many people agree with me. To compare this attempt to Reagan or Kennedy is insane and refuses to acknowledge that both of those candidates were still generally liked and both of the incidents had relatively little to do with what they were doing politically.
Trump’s recent brush with death was just another reminder that anywhere that man goes, violence, destruction, and chaos is sure to follow. I don’t see this shooting and think “we need to vote for him”. I think “jeez if he’s already being shot at now, I can only *imagine* the amount of shit we will see if he’s president. I’d like to avoid that” and I think a lot of people here underestimate the amount of people who walk away with that same conclusion.
I imagine most of the petal clutching is online. Just vote ffs, it’s literally all you gotta do.
(*Yes, I know, fuck voter suppression tactics/laws; bring water and bind together against anyone who tries to stop you from having it when it’s essential to life and you’re performing your civic duty.*)
It’s honestly probably gonna help Biden that the guy was a right wing gun nut. Time to unite the left.
So many blues are losing their mind in thinking this is the thing that will cement trumps win. Frankly, I think whatever happens come election time would have been the exact same before this lunatic took the shot. I’m more upset an innocent man died.
It is my fervent hope that every one of the horrible events leading up to the election will convince all reasonable people of voting age that they MUST cast a ballot to end the madness that is gripping the country. The lunatics must not win!
Nobody is voting for trump that wasn’t already voting for him already. In fact, he’s losing votes, he was shot at by a Republican…. What does that say about this party? They’ve had enough of his lies.
Seriously.
There has been a two week sustained news cycle on the supposed “liberal mainstream media” for Biden to drop out cause he did bad at a debate, something a few months ago alot of the same people said didnt matter (in that they never significantly move the needle in elections).
That same “liberal mainstream media” barely mentioned that Trump should drop out after being found guilty on 34 felony counts.
Biden is the most likely person to win this election, whether you like it or not, whether it’s risky or not. Of all the people in the country, he’s most likely to win.
Switching a candidate when you have an incumbent is more likely to be a bad decision than a good one. It’s more risky.
Switching the candidate this late in the election cycle is more likely to be a bad decision than a good one.
Any other candidate would have to start from the ground up, and the would be targeted by the same oppo research. And people would soon hate them just as much as Biden.
Their polling would start way below Biden’s. After all the bitching that Biden needs to drop out cause he’s polling low, the replacement would be lower
Stop shitting the bed.
And get it together.
Can still? I think we actually IMPROVED based on the (Republican) shooting of Trump.

“The fundamentals of the 2024 election remain favorable to Democrats. Gross Domestic Product is growing. Unemployment is low. [Wages have been beating inflation for more than a year.](https://www.epi.org/blog/average-wages-have-surpassed-inflation-for-12-straight-months/) ”
