Germany could owe €16.2 billion for missing EU climate targets

  2. So, they basically just need to build 2-3 nuclear power plants (a typical cost is between €6b and €9b).

    Not a big deal to achieve these targets.

  5. It will be deducted from the 170 Billions Germany paid for the COVID recovery fund.

  7. Bit weird considering Poland has one of the highest CO2 emissions by far (after Bulgaria?), seems to be based on the “rules” set for these targets.

  9. Best we can do is build 10 lane autobahn, cut spending on social and rail. But that is what we got with FDP in government…

    Is that not the reason why a lot of it’s being transferred to Poland? A German friend told me that but I lack proof/ validation

  14. Everyone has to play by the rules. Big countries aren’t exempt.

  15. Yeah, shutting down those scary nuclear power plants seems to have been the right choise huh

  16. They shouldn’t have closed down nuclear plants, and replaced them with brown coal plants.

  17. Because it’s better to shut down our internal industry within the EU. Simply export our carbon emissions to other countries who manufacture our stuff instead. That will save the climate, and we can feel really good about the numbers we release!

  27. It doesn’t work EU, people want in and depopulate other. Let’s all crowd one and everyone makes target and country average chart looks suss 

  28. Owe it to who? Some arbitrary climate target, that no one can measure anyway?!

    Where does the money go and to who? How does it get spent ?

    I swear to god people are so wrapped up in climate change/ politics that common sense is out the window.

    Carbon credits ? Essentially made out thin air and mean nothing…
