This reply had over 300 upvotes when I took this screenshot and a bunch of responses agreeing with it. Scottish people can now somehow be racist towards English people, you learn something new everyday!! Weren’t English fans chanting about Scotland during the game, yet Scotland had nothing to do with said game?
I really wish that, in 2024, these types of people would finally just learn that we do not hate English people. Scotland has suffered at the hands of England many times over. The rapes, forced slavery, banning of our language/cultural clothing and the list goes on. We also acknowledge that Scotlands own history isn’t all sunshine and roses, but supporting the other team/country does not mean we actually hate English citizens ffs. Silly banter is said between opposing teams and opposing countries whenever football is on, but for Scotland to not support England during the Euros? That’s just evil racism it seems.
Really don’t understand why these people act like English fans don’t chant weird shit about Scotland all the time when it comes to football. There is actual history as to why the majority of Scotland has always rooted for the other team. Accusing us of being racist is the biggest reach and nastiest case of being a sensitive sore loser I’ve ever seen.

I wouldn’t say racist. Some of them are certainly xenophobic.
It’s because most of us are used to old firm levels of football rivalry. We get a wee break from that and give the English about 10% of what we give each other all season, and it’s still far too much for them. We just don’t know any other way to watch football, than to hope your rivals lose every time. Then you’ll have all these like Norwich, Leicester, etc. fans who have never really even experienced a football rivalry, on the receiving end of it all, not knowing what’s going on.
I agree with the OOP. It’s not nice to have friends who consider you ‘one of the good ones’ among a group they otherwise seem to dislike.
