Today during one of my final driving lessons before my exam next week, I almost turned into the wrong side of a two way street.
There were a lot of cars oncoming on Hermannstr and I had my left blinker on to turn into Warthestr.
Maybe I focussed a bit too much on the vehicles in front of me waiting to see who is going to let me pass, but I tried to turn into the wrong side of the street before my instructor braked.
All of the other perpendicular streets don't have a middle island like Warthestr that separate it into two lanes.
This would have been a definite fail in the exam and I am feeling discouraged for making such a grave mistake.
From the street view, does it look like a confusing turn or am I completely at fault here. How can avoid this happening again? I was being super careful yet somehow I totally misread this situation

That could definitely be interpreted as two separate streets and there are no signs indicating either of them is a one way. They should at least put up a blue sign with an arrow there.
It’s a tricky street with a lack of proper signs, I’m sure many people have made that same mistake. It’s even possible that your instructor made you go there on purpose so you won’t make that mistake during the exam.
Don’t sweat it, I’m sure you’ll do fine.
Wtf is that place, that is completely non-clear that you cant turn there. I would say the only hint is that all the cars like the white mercedes in the front, are parked in the direction of the traffic. But then again, you have 2 way roads that are super narrow due to parking cars, so doesnt really mean anything.
Just remember the niche next time and you will be all good.
That turn definitely needs a no entry sign on the left and a blue sign on the right.
And Mr. Halil needs to close his place.
Good luck with your practical exam 👌🏻
You mean like a U turn? You should not do that on a narrow street like this with a lot of traffic and bike lanes. You instead make a left or a right on a side street with less traffic and then turn around on that street, come back to this street and go back where you came from.
P.s. the hint is the hashed area around the bike lanes, you’re not allowed to go over them.
Nvm, I understand now the issue. Yeah, there’s a missing red forbidden sign on that lane that should prevent you from making a left turn there. I would say it’s not your fault, it’s the city’s/police’s fault for not maintaining the correct signs.
Things happen. Now you know for the next time :).
Also talk to your instructor and ask him about similar confusing or weird intersections and ask to drive them. You learn by doing mistakes.
This might technically be a fail on the driving tests, but i would dare anyone to show me a driver who hasn’t made a similar mistake.
My hometown is full of similar solutions. We call them U-streets. And everyone screws up on occasion, i’ve met police who did it.
Its a fuckup yes, but i wouldn’t worry about it. Its a retarded road design. You will find much stupider and more confusing streets when you start getting more km under your belt.
This is an awful road design, particularly with no signs. I would have fallen for that as well. I’d be interested in seeing what r/StVO has to say about this one; I could imagine that being technically non-compliant signage.
