I got a parking ticket while in Latvia, for parking on a spot like the image above (except it was 2h, instead of 1h). The car stood there for about 1h 30m. The ticket was issued about 20 minutes after we parked our car.
From what I understand, we should be able to park there for up to 2h for free? There were no parking machines in the area.
Should I appeal the ticket, or is there no point?

What time and day it was? And no, you can park for 1h and must have clock indicating time, if there is nowhere to pay.
In the car, behind the window or in another visible place, there must be a piece of paper or something similar with the time you parked the car in the parking place. Otherwise, you break the parking rules and get a ticket.
If you park in such place first mandatory thing is to indicate time when you have parked. If there is no note or any meaningful display of said time – you get a fine. This is by the law. And nobody will check any cameras or anything, thought there are no such cameras. Also you may have parked by the all other rules, like duration, time of the day, position, etc. No time display = ticket.
Thanks for all the replies, I’ll indicate the time, next time! One last question: What if I park after 15:00, can I stay for free until 08:00? Do I still need to indicate time?
