  1. People talking about how FG are doing well in the polls etc.

But with at least 13 (almost certainly will be more) of their TDs retiring, I don’t see how they can make gains. Can see them getting destroyed next election

  2. How many FG TDs is that now? Must be near half of them, it’s going to be a very different looking Dáil next year.

  3. Good. One less two faced self serving slimey politician to get angry about.

  4. Please let that be the end of ever having to hear from him again. He was the biggest cunt we’ve had in charge in forever

  5. Would have struggled to get in anyway, sure he never was a big votegetter and always struggled to tail in at the last seat or 2

  6. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with polls once a general election is called and conversations refocus on housing and public services. Is that a third of FG TDs from the last General election not standing next time? Anyone trying to predict how the nest general election will go is a clown there’s going some serious swings in polling until the election.

  7. What with this constituency becoming a 5 seater and an incumbent like Varadkar leaving it makes it a lot more likely that O’Gorman will keep his seat

  8. Can’t face that SIPO investigation if you’re not in public office. Apparently.

Not sure I believe that one, but I’ve seen it written quite a few times

  9. Basically the politicians version of [“I’ll Be Gone, You’ll Be Gone”](https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/IBGYBG) where, now that the riches have been made from his policies, his work is done and it’s now time to retire to a board as payment, leaving behind the mess (and judging by the way things are going elsewhere, assassination attempts) to other suckers that come after him.

  10. Odd career arc, all that time not hiding his ambition for the big job, the 5 aside gang, the heaves, the coronation. After all that he loses interest pretty quickly second time round.

  11. Remember when Bertie bowed out at the perfect time to avoid taking much blame for 2008.

I feel like we’re heading towards something similar, but with how many big names are stepping down I think it’ll be much worse.

  12. I’m fucking shocked that the man who voluntarily quit his job isn’t going to try get his job back again.

  13. I quite like the idea of a decent amount of turnover among TDs.

  14. Probably has some gig lined up in some NGO or EU agency where he will earn millions telling them what they could have found out on Google.

  15. R/Ireland looks for applications for mods and the very next day Leo announces he’s not standing for election….almost too perfect

  16. The way he was treated was brutal. If Leo Varadkar was straight and white, he would have been given a second chance.
