  1. The one with the least barrier to pass is just adding seats. Can be done with a bare majority. The more seats you add the better because it becomes more expensive and difficult for billionaires to bribe them all.

  2. While this is a good change, we should be clear that it is coming out now – and not any time of the last 3 and a half years of SCOTUS impropriety – as an attempt to assuage concern about Biden’s ability to be elected. This is a strategy to avoid talking about his inability to string together coherent sentences outside the window of 10 AM to 4 PM.

There is no reason that an alternative nominee can’t follow on these changes and go even further.

  3. Adding 4 new members on the Supreme Court could save America from the worst aspects of project 2025. It would hurt Biden politically though.

  4. We don’t need a Constitutional amendment to eliminate presidential immunity. We need to get rid of the partisan hacks sitting on the Supreme Court that choose to interpret the Constitution however they damn well please.

Because, spoiler alert, they’re just going to interpret this amendment however they damn well please too.

  5. I don’t think he’s going to add seats. I think he’s going to put in term limits and accountability measures to make it easier to get rid of justices.

  6. Term limits. An enforceable ethics code. And potentially calling for a constitutional amendment to remove broad presidential immunity?

    Let’s get it done!

  7. Mandatory retirement age for SCOTUS. Learn from Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Force recusal for case that show the any hint of conflict of interest. Who will decide to force recusal is the question.

Do not allow the senate to delay the nomination for a vacancy. Mitch McConnell did untold damage to the judicial system.

  8. Great. Do it. Release the dark Brandon and stop fucking about.

  9. >pass legislation

How hard does Clarence Thomas laugh when he reads this news story

  10. This could backfire so bad. There might not be time to fill the seats before the election and Trump would be able to fill them if he wins.

  11. Just f@$&ing do it Joe! Stop announcing support and do something!

  12. With stuff like this (among others) I think it’s time for the Dem party to stop hand-wringing, throw in full-throated support, and “dance with the one who brung ya.” That’s what the GOP is doing, and we literally don’t have the time to change course now.

  13. He can’t wave a wand or issue an executive order; it has to be done by congress and that’s not likely.

  14. I mean, why even float such ideas at this point? The Dems have messed this election up so bad that Trump is all but certain to win, and this makes it all the easier for Trump to come back with his own plan post election to stack the court with judges to the right of Thomas and justify it with “if Dems can do it so can I.”

  15. I don’t think judges should be at the political mercy but when they clearly are not maintaining a separation and recusing themselves holding impeachment from a jury of their judicial peers makes sense.

  16. I dunno, our current system of “give ultimate power to the people who happen to hold the presidency and the senate when a previous holder of ultimate power dies” seems pretty great also.

  17. He should appoint four new justices now. He was chosen by the people. Fuck the GOP

  18. Just make it “official” and do what needs to be done.

  19. If only he did this at the beginning of his term instead of a few months before the next election.

  20. I find it funny that Americans think they are a free country but they are actually controlled by a “Supreme Court” and must obey their rules with no say in the matters.

  21. Yes plssss, the systems we have in place right now need reforms badly.

  22. Would it be easier to expand or impeach? Alito and Thomas have clear partisan and family ties conflicts that should disqualify them without a second thought. That would be a 5-4 switch. Otherwise 4 would need to be added making the total 13 just to squeak over the threshold to 7-6. Seems that one would look way uglier than selling to the general public that two corrupt justices have no place on the bench.

  23. It’s an order of magnitude easier to just expand the Court.

  24. Its never going to happen. Senate is flipping red. WH is flipping red. House will likely stay red. And once Trump is in, future elections are done.

I know I am going to get voted down but I speak the truth , you can call it defeatism but its reality. Wake the F up people. We are losing! Trump has had the best two weeks of his life.

  25. Whatev’s. This will either be a moon-shot like packing the court…I wish. Or just some blatant ‘promise’ if re-elected, to somehow ‘look into options’; which we were already promised years ago by the way. I believe that was when we had to endure Kavanaugh’s alcoholic reckoning at his hearing. Cringe fucking city that.

  26. It’s funny how many people here think Manchin would vote with Dems to expand the court.

  27. Sooo…what, he’s gonna come on say “We should do something about this!” and then proceed to be powerless to do anything about it anyway? Why is this supposed to excite me?

  28. The best change would be to make it so that no judges in any court are politically appointed. But that would require a constitutional amendment, which I also think is needed to fix a bunch of other issues.

  29. He’s got to tap into that presidential immunity to push the envelope.

  30. As someone from another country, it seems crazy that the most important and influential judges are there for life.
