  4. Trump has been poisoning the political climate for a decade, have personally advocated for political violence, praised the perpetrators of it, mocked victims of it, doxed people knowing exactly what it leads to.

    And now Biden is the one who is out there repeteadly apologizing for any potential microaggression, while Trump or the magas haven’t even condemned it once nor acknowledged their contribution to it. This is hilarious and deeply pathetic on the democrats.

  12. Do you know why tinpot dictators still have sham elections where they get an impossible 99% of the vote? Because they can. They can rub their complete lack of legitimacy in a populations face with no consequences.

    That’s what trump is trying to bring here. Democracy is not a spectator’s sport, it a constant struggle to ensure rights that were fought, and held, and died for are maintained.

    Get involved, go knock on doors, donate, do anything you need, especially if you are in a swing state as our country is at risk.

    1. Vote for Biden and things stay the same. It’s not ideal but there’s at least room for improvement

    2. Vote for Trump and watch the country fall into fascism with little hope of return in our lifetime

    It seems like an easy choice

  15. I feel like I’m living in the twilight zone when I see articles like this. Yes we know this is an important election. Yes we know the democrats are way better than the republicans. 99% of likely democrat voters will vote for any Democrat who is going against Trump. The issue isn’t with the democrats who follow the election like a fan follows their favorite sports team.

    The issue is with people who don’t closely follow politics. Most people have no idea what is going on in the world, don’t understand basic politics or basic policy. They only see snippets of the presidential candidates and can’t even follow along with the words they say. They only understand one thing: Trump looks strong and Biden looks weak. Is it fair? No. But that’s too bad, our monkey brains like leaders who appear confident, and for the average undecided voter that’s mostly what matters to them.

    We can possibly win with Biden, nothing is set in stone. But everyone thinks he is too old for the job and he acts like he is. He does not give the Democratic Party the best chance of beating the republicans. The moment we put in a presidential candidate someone who can string together sentences without making mistakes or is able to hold a press conference with hard questions or someone who doesn’t look like they are going to die in 2 years, is the moment the dumb undecided voter will pick the democratic candidate.

    Until then it’s not looking good for democracy.

  19. Hell yeah! Remember in their mind January 6th was “legitimate political discourse.” People lost their live that day, and they wanted to stop the democratic process and strip away your votes. I don’t condone violence, so THEIR side turn down the rhetoric.

  20. This article is full of straw man arguments blaming Democrats for things they aren’t doing, such as:

    > Democrats shouldn’t walk around apologetic for an assassination attempt they had no part in. We shouldn’t apologize for actions that aren’t ours.

    What leading Dems are doing this? Nearly all of them said it’s appropriate to bring the rhetorical temperature down but then said that it’s still appropriate to tell the truth about Trump and the GOP, Project 2025, and this election.

    This article a good example of the reflexive doomerism that just infects people on the left, many in these comments too. Instead of calling out the GOP and showing ways to fight back (such as organizing in your local community to get people registered to vote) or organizations to volunteer or work with (such as Vote Save America) they just harp on Democrats for not doing whatever is on their personal wish list of “talking tough” all the while ignoring the actual work that needs to be done.

    As usual with people like this author, it’s all optics, actual action is ignored.

  21. I think I’m finally going to sign up for phone banking this election cycle. I’m shy, and not very good at talking to people, but if I can convince anyone (esp. in PA, WI, and MI) to vote for Biden or Harris, it’ll be worth the discomfort. The DNC sucks, and while *they* may deserve to lose, we don’t.

  22. It’s media that’s killing the Dems. They put Democrats and Republicans on different standards. When a GOP member says it, it’s just another day in office. Now they are asking Dems to calm their rhetoric, because someone that has always instigate violence almost got shot. The fact that Trump almost got shot didn’t change the fact that Trump is bad for our democracy.

    I’m so sick of hearing that we’re losing elections because voters are sexist, racist, ageist, lazy, etc. Quit lecturing the electorate and put up candidates who can win.

    There are plenty of popular Democratic governors (even in red states). The formula is there, but Biden can’t execute it.

  28. Had a conversation with my pretty liberal dem FIL. Hit on a few things like the assassination attempt (he was trying to tell me about things I already knew, he doesn’t realize I follow things as much or more than he does), Biden and other Dems wanting to step down etc.

    Then something about the various statements made by people on the shooting prompted me to tell him that Dems need to get it together and stop being such spineless pansies. They fucking bend over backwards to take the high road. And they let the Republicans act like absolute assholes and just take it or just offer up some candy ass response

    Dems don’t have to lower themselves to that level but for fucks sake put up a fight. Play on the same field and rules they are. Stop getting caught up in nuance and minutiae when communicating.
