11. It depends. Unfortunately the condition of the Seine depends also on the water coming from countryside during heavy rain. It is TOTALLY normal that after heavy rain, depending on the area involved in water transport to the river, a lot of “dirt” on the ground is cleansed by the water and end up in the river. So…. if there will be no significant rain it is very possible the Seine will be clean enough. But it is a BIG IF and there is NO CONTROL on it.

19. But also more pressing, I read some interviews with open water swimmers who tested it out and said the currents in the Seine are also stronger than allowed by official regulations, so in some parts it is extremely hard to swim against the current.

21. I’m very sceptical about this. Also, even if it’s clean today, one rainfall event and it’s back to good old ‘not clean’. Dublin has the Liffey Swim every year. All participants must sign a disclaimer stating that they know they could get sick. They are all disinfected when they get out (they go through a kind of a car wash-type thing).

    Edit: Downvoting won’t change the fact that actions like these most of the time have the opposite effect. Other users pointed out that there have been independent water analysis. While the bacteria is not on a concerning level, chemicals are.

32. Did the planned protest against her, by shitting in the river – succeeded? As I understand there was even a website that helped people track time when they should shit in the river so it reaches Paris by the time she swims in it.
