  1. >the United Nations also criticised the decision, with a spokesperson saying: “no one should impose on a woman what she needs to wear, or not wear.”

If only the United Nations Organisation was so adamant even in non Olympics times and with non Olympics hosting countries.

  2. So we’re going to host foreign athletes who have the right to wear the hijab but our athletes are under the ban?

  3. It’s not a hijab ban. It’s a religious headgear ban that includes hijab.

  4. Christian crosses are also banned, as also pagan pentagrams, and religious symbols in general, but you don’t see anyone else besides Muslims being outraged.

As always they want special treatment, to be above rules, as if they’re superior than other people.

  5. That’s not human rights groups. That’s oppressor rights groups. F*ck ‘em!😃

  6. I don’t know why human rights groups are upset. I thought shelter, food, and water are essential human rights. Not something you wear on your head regardless if it’s religious or not.

  7. So, to sum it up, these Olympic games so far have:

    1. destroyed a coral reef 15000 kilometers from Paris, with everyone protesting it, but IOC doesnt care.

    2. going to be hosting a Dutch paedophile rapist (this one’s on the Dutch, what are you doing out there?)

    3. banning religious items (I dont care about religion much, but banning things is idiotic if they don’t hurt anyone)

Well, these are the fucking times we live in…

edit: did the entire Dutch IOC delegation come and downvote me?

  8. France is an atheist country and the display of religious symbols in public is banned.

  9. IMO it should be to have a right to believe in whatever religion as long as it does not interfere with others

  10. It’s time to remove religion altogether from everything. It has no place in the modern world.

  11. And Iran has a ban on their athletes revealing hair.

Both bans are utterly stupid and oppressive.

  12. on one hand that make sens, any religious symbols are banned so it should be too

but on the other, who care ? it’s just clothing on the head

so idk where I stand on that

  13. Shouldnt human right groups be outraged on idea of hijab ?

  14. Nothing wrong with banning something that degrades women.

  15. This is, to me, a non-article. France has had a seemingly uncompromising stance on secularism in the state for a very long time. If the athletes don’t like it, they can just, you know, not compete.

  16. Fuck their human rights, maybe if they acted like humans it would be okay but no they shoot up theatres and bomb concerts

  17. Completely legit move as this has no place in sports.

  18. Great news, the birthplace of a modern secular republic lives up to its heritage

  19. As long as that group isn’t singled out and it’s everyone so be it.

  20. Im on the “as long as they don’t hurt anyone with it, let them cover their damned hair” opinion, but really whats the logic? That’s hair, tf is wrong with it. I understand covering boobs, although i don’t mind seeing boobs. But hair? What is even wrong with it? I never understood the modesty movement, i could understand it at least but hair??

  21. Jewish Kipa is also banned (Religious headwear in general), this is not an anti-Islam thing.

  22. My religion tells me to take steroids, it’s non-negotiable for my connection to my God. Can I please have an exemption?

  23. This is where we have to be fair, “it’s not your country and you must/should follow the Laws of the country you are traveling/staying in.” Wasn’t that the same thing they said when people Complained about things like Beer, public displays of Affection, etc… being banned during the Qatar world cup?

  24. France is based, it’s hard to admit, but we have much to learn…

  25. No one should he outraged at a general ban on symbols as part of sport.

Not sure what human rights group we are talking about here but they can go focus on real human rights issues.

  26. Remind me, where this groups were when Qatar had a world cup?

  27. Good move from France. We other Europeans should follow that lead

  28. This sub was fuming when an article showed up about Qatar banning alcohol during the world cup.

    Hypocrites, as always on here

  29. If you ever see Iranian women athletes and feel a 2nd hand embarrassment that they have to cover their hair, it’ll be almost as embarrassing seeing French athletes being forced to wear wigs instead of a headscarf.
