  2. The question is: what’s illegal, and who decides? International law is a slippery entity at best and don’t forget that the most powerful nation on the planet… the US… refuses to even recognize international courts.

  4. Can someone explain how these troops came to be there and why this isn’t considered some kind of invasion? Does Moldova not have adequate forces to remove them? If Moldova asked another (EU/NATO) country to intervene to remove them could Russia use that as an excuse to “escalate” even though they are clearly in the wrong (as usual)

  6. On the other hand, Transnitria is more of a cost than a resource for Russia, being basically isolated from the rest of the world and needing constant supplies from Russia. And the huge weapon depots there are full of very old stuff that probably doesn’t work anymore. So, even if they stay there, it’s not that big of a deal.
