An interesting choice for foreign secretary at the very least. However he does appear capable of biting his lip now in power, so perhaps there is hope.
Hardly the actions of a foreign secretary with our countries best interests at heart. Like it or not trump is likely to win the US election and as such we will need to pursue close ties to him – this statement made by lammy is completely in contrast to kier starmers statements
Well the good news is if uk/USA relations aren’t cosy we might not be dragged into the next war.

I don’t know how this is David Lammy “defending” what he said? He’s not wrong obviously, but I feel like the headline is a bit inflammatory. It’s not like Lammy is reiterating what he said as a backbencher. Even David Cameron called Trump “divisive, stupid and wrong” and “protectionist, xenophobic, misogynistic” in his memoir.
Trump chose a running mate who described him as “Americas Hitler” in the past, I’m sure he’ll get over what Lammy said just as quickly.

Can’t say I disagree with him but the issue is that if Trump comes to power, which is looking increasingly likely, then we need to at least have a chance at a constructive relationship with the US.
Trump sucks, says wild shit and has done many bad things, but how exactly is he a neo-Nazi? Being misogynistic and making bigoted comments isn’t being a Nazi, being a Nazi is about believing the supremacy of the Aryan race, murdering millions of Jews and invading various European nations.
Words have actual meanings, people throw around the term fascism these days without a fucking clue what it means. This seems like a similar case here.
There’s plenty of legitimate criticism against Trump, people just undermine their credibility and strengthen support for Trump when they bandy around words like Nazi.
Lammy’s response to this is weak, if he is actually willing to stand behind the Nazi characterisation of Trump then why is he now trying to avoid the topic?

What Lammy said was true. Trump is definitely a sociopath. And he supports and is supported by neo-Nazis, up to and including American extremities who wave the Nazi Swastika around in public.
If you’re offended by hearing Lammy describe Trump accurately, the problem isn’t with Lammy.
They’ll be singing a different tune once, hopefully, Trump gets reelected.
But this highlights the problem of virtue signaling activism, flirting with anti-Americanism, when you’re in opposition.
As far as I’m concerned, there’s no need to defend the truth. It is what it is.

Trump has a lot of value; there’s a lot of good in him; but it’s our job to support and defend Taiwan, and no one else’s. He’s right. Trump’s last term in office was a nightmare for the whole world. I don’t know how we managed to live through 4 years of affordable groceries, affordable energy prices, historic peace deals in the Middle East, not starting any new wars, not having Russia invade Ukraine, strengthening NATO by getting European sponger nations to pay their 2% for the first time ever, and so on and so forth.
