  1. It will probably only be symbolic, since you need 60 senators to get it on the Presidents’ desk.

  2. Senator Warren said yesterday that

    > “We will suspend the filibuster. We have the votes for that on *Roe v. Wade*”

There are currently enough votes in the Senate to suspend the filibuster to codify *Roe v. Wade* into law according to her. So if Democrats are able to keep control of the Senate and presidency and win control of the House, *Roe v. Wade* will law of the land again. We have got to make this happen this November, please. Vote, tell all your friends to vote, volunteer, and let’s make it happen.

  3. This sounds like a headline generated by the opposition to stir movement in their own base. Help remind them that it’s not just about voting for the candidate , it’s all this other stuff too.

  4. Can we codify Griswold, Obergefell and Loving while we’re at it? It’s 2024, there’s no reason any minority groups should be at risk of *losing* rights.

Dems love to sit on their hands so they can use other people’s livelihoods as a political football until the shit blows up in our faces.

  5. Let’s say Democrats sweep and pass a strong abortion rights bill on day 1. The damage will have still been done to women’s healthcare. Hundreds if not thousands of doctors and related healthcare professionals will have moved from abortion-ban states to abortion-rights states. How many of those people will be keen to move back to a state when their careers could be nuked by a bad election every four years. The reality is a bill is just the very start of repairing the damage overturning Roe has wrought.

  6. I mean, great, but until we have a significant repair of SCOTUS we know what’s going to happen to it.

  7. How about dismantling the current Supreme Court, dropping lifetime appointments, setting standards of behavior for Justices, and appointing a new group of Justices, and preventing the Court from anointing a conservative American King..?

  8. “We really mean it this time guys! We swear!”

Whatever. Dems talk a big game and then do *nothing* to advance their agenda when they have the power to do so. It’s almost as if they stand to gain more by never resolving the issue so they can endlessly campaign on fixing it.

  9. This should be the ultimate lesson for democrats. NEVER wait on other people to pass legislation that you care about. Force the issue, talk about it openly and often. We need to be proactive and not reactive. Set the agenda, dont let other people do it for us

  10. Oh yeah? Like when you had a super majority back in 09?

  11. LMFAO, I call bullshit. They’ve had all the levers of power multiple times and never done anything. How would they be able to raise money crying about the threat to reproductive freedoms if they actually DID something. They’ve claimed this for DECADES.

  12. How about fix the Supreme Court, stop PACs and large political donations, stop politicians from trading stock, make term limits on every elected position, stop hedge funds and corporations from buying every house/condo, tax the fuck out of the 10 people that control half of the countries wealth, stop corporations from price gouging us, fix healthcare……

  13. The problem is the Democrats are massively fund raising off this issue. I doubt they will be so quick to fix a problem that makes them so much money.

  14. The first votes are typically symbolic and ceremonial, so that tracks

  15. I swear, they’ve been saying this for years. They’ve had control before and never bothered to do it.

It’s too useful to them to have it as a driving force to get people to vote, codifying it would take it off the table to motivate voters.

  16. Democrats fucked around and got it revoked. Now they want to use codifying it as a carrot on a stick for voters.

Trump said he would leave it up to the states. If you’re a woman who cares about abortion, get out of *those* states. That’s fine by me, for the abortion issue at least. Demand more from the DNC.

  17. Even if that happens so much damage has already been done.

The courts decision has uprooted so many lives and has resulted in certain states having little to no access to abortion care.

States that had restricted abortion will take years to recover and finally have proper infrastructure again. It’s easy to tear something down but hard to build it back up.

I hope this happens but we need to manage expectations.

  18. What was the first vote in 2022 after the GOP justices on SCOTUS stripped women of the right to control their own bodies?

    Was it to codify Roe?

  19. They’ve done it in my state. Though I am glad this is the goal…I fear it won’t happen anytime soon (perhaps even in my lifetime) given the mess that is the Supreme Court. I don’t see how they won’t halt any efforts.

  20. Oh good, so they’ve switched from “Vote for us or the big bad republicans are going to take away your rights” to “Vote for us or we won’t be able to get back your rights the big bad republicans took away”.

Can the Democrats do ANYTHING besides scaring people into voting for them? Good fucking golly this is pathetic.

  21. I’m so sick of being gaslit by a god damn political party.
They had four years to get this shit done but instead tried to be as moderate as possible.

  22. Sure it is, just like it has been for the past 50 years, but this time they’re serious!

  23. Obama lied about the same thing in 2009. Had a super majority. The facts are, which Dems (Harris) has confirmed repeatedly is that women’s repordructive rights drives voters to the polls. Without it, what do Dems have other wise?

  24. No, it won’t be. Emails about how you need to donate so they can codify it will be first. Then excuse about how they can’t yet, but here’s another round of fund raising off the issue…. Which is why things keep going to shit.

  25. How much you want to bet they don’t codify roe v wade into law if they get power.

  26. I don’t believe that. Deep down inside many old Democrats like the Republican platform.

  27. You ding dongs had like 50 years to do that ya buttholes

  28. Elizabeth Warren talks big with no follow through.

  29. You hacks had 50 years to codify it, and instead of doing your jobs as lawmakers you relied on a judical ruling. You get what you fucking deserve.

  30. “Come on, Charlie Brown, I’m sure Lucy will definitely not pull the football from under you yet again!”

  31. No it won’t.

Democrats lied about this when Obama campaigned on it in 2007 and 2008 during the primaries then deliberately chose not to to use his filibuster proof Congressional super-majority to do a single fucking thing on the issue.

Codifying Roe v. Wade wasn’t even a priority for the Biden administration who, once they reacted to the repeal of Roe v. Wade, did very little to circumvent and challenge the power of the Supreme Court’s reversal.

Establishment Democrats are utilizing the promise of codifying Roe as a dangling carrot to manipulate voters into fundraising cash reserves for the DNC while simultaneously being deeply unserious on the issue.

All this and the fact that Dems could not pass any meaningful progressive Reforms under Biden for his entire presidency and will not be able to pass any more legislation in the future if the filibuster itself is not nuked out of existence.

The fact that Dems are, on the surface, more superficially concerned with Roe v. Wade than they are with structural changes to US democracy itself is a facade meant to manipulate low information, ignorant, docile, servile establishment Democratic voters who consume sloppy ass MSNBC propaganda.

If the Dems were serious about a single fucking thing to enact their agenda, it would be aggressively and boldly wielding as much power as possible to remove all political obstacles and impediments in the way of their political agenda – *which they don’t see to care very much about at all, do they?*

  32. If Dems regain majority control everywhere, they need to make sweeping changes across the board. Right to choose, SCOTUS term limits and possibly an expansion in number of seats, a crackdown on red state voter suppression tactics, excessive force by police, the works. Dems need their own Project 2025, a plan to improve the lives of all Americans.

And if the rumors come true and the presidential candidate is someone *other* than Biden, they cannot do the “wait for a second term” bullshit that Presidents love to pull. That’s just asking for the GOP to swoop back in and fuck it up after the midterms.

  33. Lol someone should tell these Dems that Roe has *already been overturned*. It happened two years ago! How can you codify something that doesn’t exist anymore? Why say you’re going to “codify Roe” when what you really mean is “codify abortion rights?” Why such a clickbaity title?
