You have to punch through a weak spot with Your troops and keep going if a big river divides your main line from this attack group. War is logistics and already deprived from a full arsenal, don’t overstretch the line of supply. Paul, if I recall, the Ukrainians were expecting the USA and other allies to come through (in a timely manner) with the long range weaponry, air craft and ammunitions they had promised to provide. The Russians were able to move into position to use their longest range capabilities to stifle the Ukrainian operations in Krinky.
    Should president Trump and his poor choice for a VP prevail and put into effect their campaign promises, some NATO countries may have to break ranks and enter the war actively.

25. They should have reversed operations and made the cross river drive the primary as the line of least expected No fortifications, mines etc. Natural barriers are inherently less difficult than human ones. Maybe it should be revisited when Ukraine can get air local superiority.

42. There is a way to offset the drones. Futuristic guided projectiles in a barreled platform. Projectiles that can be signal seeking and thus guided to the drones individually. Very high tech and futuristic, but it can be done.
