  13. I see some of yall in the comments saying things like “good” or “why should we subsidize useless degrees”. The reason you’re getting down voted to hell is for a number of reasons, but here is one you will hopefully understand:

    Loan forgiveness and lower payments helps all of us via the economy. Money *not* put towards a loan goes towards goods to be bought. Local goods, local businesses, travel, etc. Instead of people putting money into a loan, it goes into the economy. And the benefits compound: now they can afford to move for better jobs, now they can afford children, now they may be able tk get off of welfare (your taxes may be subsidizing them already), and so much more.

    So aside from the morality of it, there are tangible economic benefits. These things will pay for themselves. Anyway, that’s all. See you guys when I sort by Controversial

    I’m not surprised. People that decided to further their education are forced to suffer. It wouldn’t surprise me if PSLF is next at some point, even though it technically has more solid basis as it was passed by Congress, but that never stopped a corrupt conservative from trying.

  30. Pausing existing SAVE plan benefits is crazy I don’t understand how this can be legal according to any written contract law. For the borrowers that entered into a repayment contract with set payment terms how can one party change the terms of that contract without consent of the other party? I understand that new borrowers may not be afforded the same opportunities but many people made permanent financial decisions based on set repayment terms. PSLF, SAVE IBR rates, spousal income separation with separate tax filings I don’t see how ANY court would uphold changing contract mid term. Can you imagine if your mortgage, car payment, rent, ETC could just change terms or minimum payments without any of your input? Effectively makes any contract meaningless.

    I understand this is just R’s attempting to hurt middle class liberals but really disheartening

    If Biden stays in, or another nominee comes through, they will be able to use this as a dire warning that Trump will 100% force payments back on with a new, anti-student secretary of education.

  44. Eh, what does a president care what the courts say? Perfect time to use the immunity. Reply to the court: noted. Then do it officially. The court has no power in the executive branch. They gave that up.

    Like this is sicko shit that the Republican Party is indulging in. “Millions of Americans who still believe in paying their own way” is code for “Americans who believe in wage slavery.”

    Those $0 a month payments only go to individuals making less than $33k a year. The Republican Party believes inhumanity is the American way.
