    It is even funny how they seem to believe they’re going be sent to Disneyland on holiday but then for some unbelievable and adverse someone signs an order to station them in the middle of a war.

    I think: when signing they only see money and ignore anything else. They convince themselves that the others’ fate will not be theirs. Later, when they realise that in war, well, one really dies, they adopt the desperate tactic of pretending to have heard they would not really fight or be sent in some rear position and so on.
