Only problem is the shirt sponsor removals are a very tiny part of the problem.
Removing them won’t make a difference when 50% of adverts around any televised game are all trying to talk you into having a bet!
Unfortunately there is always going to be gambling around sports. As much as i understand people’s problems with it being on shirts , it’s not going to change it from being seen around football grounds , during half time , etc . It’s too big of a business and a lifeline for club revenues. Especially smaller clubs .
Sadly those betting companies bring in so much money, that it can be hard for clubs to say no.
I wish it would be banned in advertising though. Imagine having a gambling problem & constantly being reminded about bets you could be making.
It’s like waving cigarettes in front of a persons face who is trying to quit.
Opinion from a non-gambler: All of the pearl clutching over gambling has always rung hollow to me. I’m not denying that it can be disastrous for people, but so are other “mainstream” vices (alcohol, tobacco, etc…). But that is part of their inherent nature as vices and what makes them such a sought for and lucrative product.
Over here in the states some athletes have raised issues with the rise in gambling, as it has resulted in obnoxious and threatening fan behavior towards the athletes. Even this is more an issue of human behavior and civility.
Gambling is just being made a scapegoat because it’s an easier target.
Apparently a lot of these gambling companies are actually owned by the same parent firm from China.
Got to ask how these guys pass the PLs “rigorous” checks yet Paramount wasn’t ok…
