Can Elon Musk buy Trump the White House? Americans are about to find out. The power of the uberwealthy to influence the democratic process seems to be growing in this year’s increasingly intense and tense election cycle.

The cause happened over 75 years ago, when a Republican led Congress united to overturn president Truman’s veto, and strip US workers of fundamental rights and freedoms (that Europeans take for granted). Many, including Truman, vehemently criticized that anti-worker bill as a *”dangerous intrusion on free speech*”, a *”slave labor bill*”, and as in *”conflict with important principles of our democratic society*”.

   In a modern democracy, there are only two real powers. *Free* workers, and the wealthy. They keep each other in check in not only the economy but also in politics, in the media, and in society in general. Without free workers, there’s literally no serious counterbalance nor resistance on unbridled greed’s path to gradually corrupt and own everything and everyone, including left wing parties and democracy itself.

   That’s what’s happening in America today.
