This is sort of dumb. To be a runner has always mean being flexible on when and where you run. Pouring rain? Hot day? Air quality? These have always been factors to contend with. I get the premise of what the are saying, that maybe the frequency in which one has to change their running time is increasing due to destabilizing weather, but, it’s hardly a new thing for us runners. Or maybe I am a bit unique living in a completely unpredictable climate zone like Alberta.
Seattle gets a month of smoke most years, we’ve spent a lot of time with the dirtiest air on earth. We used to be able to take clean air for granted, but now when the wildfires get going and the wind shifts, it’s stagnant, 300+ AQI brown, there are no shadows.
I won’t exercise in it, I don’t want lung cancer. It’s not a random day of bad weather, it’s an entire month.
Seattle isn’t alone in this, it sounds like a lot of the east coast and midwest lost their summer last year.
Cross country skiing is like winter running out here, but we keep getting bad snow years.
