  1. ‘He reduced the overall sentence to one of eight years’. So He only does one year, is that right?. If so that’s very lenient when you think about what the moron done. Looks like a lunatic.

  2. Edit actually I reread it and I do believe the 8 years is reduced from 14! I’m back to being shocked again!

  3. >His barrister, Mr Colm Smith, SC, said his client would not have committed such acts had he not consumed both cocaine and such a large amount of alcohol.

Ah, so he wouldn’t have done it if he hadn’t done things that led to him doing it.

  4. Not half enough for the bloody nut job.

In the news report last week it said that the armed response unit were called it, wonder if this guy realises how close he came to being put down?

  5. I find it kind of mad that the default assumption in sentencing is that you have 600 prior convictions and you get time cut off for that not being the case. I know it’s kind of semantics but a guy like this deserves the standard sentence, and you add on to that if they’re a serial repeat offender.

  6. Ahh sure look, who hasn’t gone on a drink and drug fuelled gun toting rampage in their youth? Looks like a decent chap who has learned his lesson in that pic too

  7. The pure fucking state of the writing in this article – single sentences per paragraph, the diction of an english redtop writer and the word “rampage” used five separate times.

  8. >one of the most aggravating factors in the case was that Dowling used a licensed firearm to carry out his rampage.

I beg to differ judge. If anyone had been hit or killed I think I can say with a fair degree of certainty that they wouldn’t have given a flying fuck whether the gun was licensed or not.

  9. 25, father of 1, and an absolute waste of space. In the future we will hopefully be able to neuter people at birth and have them apply for a procreation license at adulthood.

  10. The guard he shot at said he had no ill will towards him and recognizes that it was “out of character” and an “act of lunacy” fueled by alcohol and drugs.

Jesus H Christ. The lad tried to kill you. What does alcohol have to do with it? The judge says it’s an aggravating factor, but treats it like a mitigating factor.

The lad tried to murder a guard. Life in prison is the only answer. Alcohol just brings who you really are to the surface, it’s not an excuse for any crime.

  11. >Judge Aylmer said it was extremely fortuitous that nobody was seriously injured or shot dead on the night.
    >**He added that the issue of Dowling’s gun license was one for the licensing authority.**

    Suffering Jesus

  12. Remember when this story was last posted in here, before he was sentenced, people were confidently queuing up to (bizarrely) claim that someone who shot at the guards wouldn’t get any prison time?
