  1. Democratic leadership: “Are we out of touch? No, it’s the electorate who’s wrong”

  2. The people saying Biden should drop out are mostly moderates, why are leftists politicians being so pro establishment?

  3. our definition of “succeed” is winning the presidency and having a person whose brain works running the country for the next four years. what a bunch of myopic saboteurs we must be.

  4. America is begging for a normal, sane, cognizant, not-ancient candidate. Its really that simple. Find a decent candidate, prop them up, and watch people rally behind them. Its really not that hard.

  5. Such an unnecessarily inflammatory headline. Makes it sound like she’s threatening them to stay in line when in reality she’s pointing out how the bad optics and real dysfunction this fragmentation is causing while the republicans are unified.

  6. The issue here is that there are actually multiple roadblocks in the way, but Redditors who have no clue how anything works don’t realize that and just say “Kick him out already lol.”

It’s like voters who think there is a “lower inflation” button that presidents either choose to press or not.

  7. It’s going to be extremely difficult to get people back on the Biden train, big donors said they won’t donate as long as Biden is running and it’s hurting their campaign..

  8. She’s right. Democrats must stand united or die divided.

  9. She’s got a point. Some Dems freaked out at the sight of a bad debate for Biden and decided to jump ship right away demanding that he drop out with no clear alternative. The media narrative that somehow Biden is any worse than he was 2 months ago has taken hold of the dialogue and since Dems tipically give in to panic, here we are.

Saw a similar thing during the Iraq war where so many anti-war Dems voted for the Iraqi invasion because of peer pressure only to regret it and apologize later.

  10. Guys. The reasons AOC and Bernie are saying this is because Biden still has the best odds to win. 538 simulation has Biden leading, and Allan Lichtman has him with the edge. If he does get replaced only Kamala makes sense.

  11. She is worried because it seems some donors intend on completely bypassing Kamala and picking there preferred candidate. That is not going over very well with lots of voters. If its not Biden it needs to be Harris.

  12. Enthusiasm? Huge ratings for the Convention? Sucking all the political oxygen away from Trump? Getting new blood from outside of the Clinton-Obama worlds? Seems like an open convention would be a jolt of energy that would reverse the election’s momentum.

  13. Democrats be like hey the election is in 4 months let’s throw everything in the trash!

  14. How is it that I’ve spent the last 3.5 years watching the Republican Party behave in complete disarray while the Democrats have been in complete unity, and now that we’re 4 months from the election the Republicans seem totally unified but the Democrats seem to be in complete disarray. This is ridiculous.

  15. This is one of the few times I wholesale agree with her.

But I do also fear it’s too late. The division within the Democrats does not feel like it can be overcome. All while the Republicans are uniting “their” people, the Democrats are complaining like a college kid who waited until the last minute to do their homework instead of elevating *anyone* else (including the most invisible vice president ever) to be a potential next leader of the party.

  16. > What I will say is what upsets me is [Democrats] saying we will lose. For me, to a certain extent, I don’t care what name is on there. We are not losing. I don’t know about you, but my community does not have the option to lose. My community does not have the luxury of accepting loss in July of an election year. My people are the first ones deported. They’re the first ones put in Rikers. They’re the first ones whose families are killed by war.

    > The important context here is that Ocasio-Cortez represents a majority-minority district, where a large number of her constituents are foreign-born.

    > Earlier this week, I noted similar criticism voiced in a letter from the voter advocacy group Black Voters Matter that denounced some Democrats’ haphazard effort to overrule primary voters, oust Biden and potentially leapfrog Harris as the obvious second-in-line to be the party’s nominee. Part of that criticism stemmed from the fact that mobilizing Biden-Harris voters to cast a ballot for an entirely new set of nominees would most likely prove difficult.

    > And the criticism didn’t end there. In fact, hours before Ocasio-Cortez’s post to Instagram on Thursday, more than 1,400 Black women who are activists signed a separate letter calling out Democrats who are seeking to push Biden out and install someone other than Harris atop the ticket.

Throwing this election and allowing Project 2025 to happen just because Biden is 3 and a half years older than Trump, is the stupidest thing people could do.

  17. I just don’t understand how swapping out the candidate for what has to be one of the most important elections the nation has seen in a hot minute could be considered a good thing. Surely riding this out and focusing on what to do post-Biden is the more assured strategy?

  18. Biden stays: lack of donors

Biden goes: party wastes at minimum a month figuring out who the candidate is.

  19. Even if they stick with Biden, what is the long term play for the Democrats? These questions won’t go away in his 2nd term even if he stays in the race and wins the election.

  20. Chaos is the last thing we need now – we need unity to defeat the GOP and project2025. Democrats need to win big on all levels.

  21. I just love how corruption is just sanitized as “donors” and used to justify whatever it is the corporate overlords want to usher in. These “donors” are the same fucking corporations that want to fuck everyone over.

“The people that want to price gouge insulin want Biden gone”. Oh no, anyway!

  22. We all want better but if it’s Biden, dammit, go vote and keep Trump out. The country will be just fine if Biden dies while in office. The same can’t be said if Trump becomes king.

  23. The “it’s my turn” attitude of Democrat presidential hopefuls needs to fucking stop.

It comes across as anointing successors and disillusions their voters.

I understand that changing the nominee now creates an unknown that seems too risky, however this whole fucking thing could’ve been avoided had an open primary process taken place. Instead, everyone stepped aside to not interfere with the incumbent.

If Biden was walking into the DNC having won primaries with actual challengers, we would not be having this “drop out” discussion. We’d be way past this and unifying with the best candidate.

This conversation about Biden’s age exists because it was never properly addressed in the last 4 years when it should’ve been addressed.

Hopefully Democrats learn from this going forward.

  24. I hate to say it, but the DNC doomed themselves and all of us by allowing him to run again. He didn’t have to. There are plenty of other, better, younger, less corporate lapdog candidates.

  25. This might, just might, have something to do with rich people trying to derail the Biden commitment to raise taxes on the rich.

Good for AOC! She is a brave, able, and intelligent legislator. Send her $20 if you can.

  26. Maybe it’s a hot take of mine but I do think all this political drama and the fear of Democrats losing may actually be the adrenaline that is needed for Democrats to beat the GOP in November.

    The desperation could actually help.

Biden’s performance in that debate was so horrible that we are literally still talking about it weeks later. I remember Obama giving a bad debate against Romney once (granted it wasn’t age related) and that kind of thing helped the campaign correct course.

My point is this: whatever the result is of this chaos…should Biden stay or step aside … and whoever is the nominee….

I do think that the fear of Democrats losing to Trump may actually give the Democrats the kind of push they need. Democratic voters already don’t want Trump to win. The added fear of losing because of recent Democratic fumbles could be that extra push to make sure we Americans (who still support democracy) cast our vote for the to-be-determined Democratic nominee.

Maybe I’m just trying to look for a silver lining…

  27. These Dems are also currently undermining any foreign policy negotiations or plans Biden may be working with his cabinet on.

    They aren’t thinking.

  28. My biggest thing about this whole situation is there should’ve been a conversation after the midterm elections. If the DNC wanted to bring in someone new to run for 2024, they needed to shine a light on that candidate then. Doing it now is kind of insane if they want to pick someone totally new. Yes our election cycle is long in comparison to other countries, but the people who don’t pay attention to politics really would need a primer on the who’s who. Trump would win some votes on name recognition alone.

  29. Whether you agree Biden should step down or not, it’s concerning that these big donors are trying to strong arm Kamala out of the picture too when realistically it sounds like she would be the only alternative to Biden in terms of being able to get on all the ballots and access Biden’s campaign funds.

So big donors are trying to 1. Hand pick what candidate they want??? 2. Basically going to screw any chance of beating Trump because changing ballots in key states is going to cause legal hurdles

  30. An ad for emotional support plushies shows up in this thread. 😆😆

  31. It’s interesting that Biden is getting more support from AOC and Bernie Sanders than moderate Democrats.

We are talking about giving up the incumbent advantage for maybe 3-4 points in a few battleground polls (less for Harris). We have no idea what happens to those numbers if one of those people is actually made the nominee.

This seems like madness. This election is becoming make or break for the Democrats as much as Republicans. Whatever they choose, a loss will not sit well with their voters.
