   in dictatorships, anti-coruption campaigns are used to purge rivals ,not to ” clean” the system. Apart from some local successes in China, I’ve yet to see an anti-corruption campaign leading to less corruption

Example number 397361 of how mainstream media bleeds credibility and respect of their readers by sticking to this “pretend that Russia is a normal country because that makes us sound unbiased and serious” shtick. If I wanted to know which general was fired for corruption, I’d check the Russian media, I expect our journalists to make an effort to determine what his actual “crime” was or at least admit ignorance.
