For Lemminkäinen I imagined it would be cool to draw a scene (one of my favorites from Kalevala!). Lemminkäinen has been killed by a water viper trap laid by Märkähattu. His mother fishes his body parts from the river Tuonela. The gods put him back together again. Suonetar knots his vains back together.
Ilmatar, Godess of nature, sews him together with silken threads. A scaup is accompanying them, I guess it still hangs around after creating the earth and the sky etc. I’ve hidden a couple of forest animals in her hair and clothes;)
Ukko, the supreme god, is attaching the limbs back together.
And finally, the bee who fetches balsam and honey from the heavens.

For the tattoos, I’ve referenced a collection of hand weaving patterns.
So, this one took some effort, hope you like it!
The next one is going to be a bit simpler;)

  1. I feel this does not really encapsulate the finnish feeling. These are really handsome, colourful and epic. Finland is great place to live but the feeling you get is none of those. I feel these are really just taken from very general place of epicness and mythology. Not really expressing anything that is finnish.

Still the artwork is very skilled and well done. So keep doing art but you gotta meet some finnish people and get the dry and calm feeling of finnish existence in these pictures.
