How Germany’s favourite cult took over everything from schools to supermarkets

  1. Article has a point. Steiner was a mystical barmpot and the ‘adults’ his schools turn out according to his bizarre mystical barmpot beliefs have often struck me as essentially unemployable and generally not very bright. Of course this may say more about the sort of parents who send their kids there. Anyway, the schools are presumably regulated and have to meet national education standards so perhaps they aren’t a big problem.

The anthroposophy stuff however probably ought to be banned. Along with other pseudoscientific bollocks. Biodynamic farming etc *sounds* largely harmless but it does promote incredibly inefficient use of agricultural land, and so contributes to world hunger etc.

  2. Anecdotal evidence:

My sister in law attended a Waldorf School. She was raised by parents who eschew vaccinations and medicine and trust esoteric nonsense over science. She did catch the big C last year and has since radically changed her views. She’s now getting every vaccine she can (Covid and otherwise) and takes her kid to a doctor instead of the naturopath. The kid’s already vaccinated, by the way, because my brother simply ignored her decision not to vax them and took them to the doc anyway.

  3. >took over everything from schools to supermarkets

    >There are over 250 Waldorf schools in Germany

So about 0.8% of all schools in Germany -> took over, all right.

    Tone down the rhetoric.

Comparing Anthroposophy to Scientology is vile. Last time I checked, the Goetheanum doesn’t have a concentration camp such as [Scientology operates one](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hole_(Scientology)).

You can not even compare them to JW, which are way more toned down and civil.

They don’t even have any centralized organization, in fact, every Waldorf-School is its own legal entity and organization.

There is a lot to critisize about them, sure, but it is neither helpful to overexagerate “took over everything” nor to draw inflammatory comparison (with Scientology of all organizations!).
