Priti Patel and other Tories continues to use language designed to create hatred despite court rulings…. what a fucking surprise from the woman that toured Bahrain police station prison cells run by a known torturer and then officially greeted the same said torturer to the UK in the government press announcement room.
> Priti Patel has been accused of misleading the public by continuing to label all Channel crossings by asylum seekers “illegal” after a court confirmed they were not.
> Judges ruled that refugees trying to reach a British port or be intercepted at sea have not committed a crime in December, and this week lawyers representing the home secretary told the High Court a “misunderstanding” about the law had been rectified.
> But the government has not publicly acknowledged the cases, as Ms Patel and other ministers continue to label the desperate journeys “illegal” in parliament.
> “It is quite a deliberate attempt to dehumanise these people and make the public think worse of them.”
> The home secretary, attorney-general Suella Braverman, and ministers Victoria Atkins, Baroness Williams of Trafford, James Heappey and Baroness Goldie have all told parliament Channel crossings by asylum seekers are “illegal” since the Court of Appeal ruled they were not.
> Home Office figures show that “almost all” migrants on small boats claim asylum, and the vast majority are granted protection.
> Bella Sankey, the director of Detention Action, said: “The home secretary and attorney-general demean their office, and mislead parliament and the public, by falsely claiming those crossing the channel have broken the criminal law.
> “That they continue to do so, in defiance of a Court of Appeal judgement, shows once again the disrespect this government has both for the law and for the truth.”
The Tories showing disrespect for the law, just shows why they are determined to be able to ignore any laws they don’t like.
Fucking corruption and dictatorship as ever from this bunch of fuckwits
Nice dig by Mr McDonald, who is the SNP’s home affairs spokesperson at the end
> Mr McDonald, who is the SNP’s home affairs spokesperson, questioned the home secretary about the Court of Appeal judgment over the legality of Channel crossings in parliament.
> On 17 January, he said: “The home secretary should have pointed out that, **unlike the endless Downing Street parties, arriving in the UK to claim asylum is not unlawful**, as the Court of Appeal reminded her just last month.”
And Patel simply ignores everything and continues her BS claims of hatred
> **Ms Patel did not address the point, accusing the SNP of “political gimmicks” and vowing action to stop the exploitation of “people who cross illegally”.**
> While quashing the convictions of four asylum seekers who had been wrongly jailed for steering dinghies across the Channel, the Court of Appeal said **British authorities had adopted a “heresy about the law”.**
And now the government is blatently defying the law and doing as it wishes
> The following day, The Independent asked the Home Office whether it would “stop describing Channel crossings as ‘illegal’ when the Court of Appeal has clearly stated it is wrong”.
> The press office refused to answer the question and sent a statement **that did not acknowledge the court’s judgment.**
Yet more dictatorship and ignore any laws they don’t like… fuck this country and the Tories / right wing media in particular

It’s no wonder you get the single celled organisms in this subreddit declaring asylum seekers as ‘illegal immigrants’
‘furst safe country!’ and all that bullshit. Idiots led by a vindictive cunt.
Ah Sturmbannführer Patel. Looking forward to her appearance at The Hague. I’m afraid the Nuremberg defence won’t help her.
Refugees are following the law. Priti Patel and Boris Johnson call them criminals.
Boris Johnson and senior Tories have been breaking the law. Patel and the others pretend that they’ve done nothing wrong.
And they have the audacity to call themselves the party of law and order!
The public are on board with Patel on this one, by and large. Best find another angle because appealing on the technicalities of legal terms isn’t really gonna wash with most folk.
Even if they were illegal, is it immoral to want to leave your home country for safety reasons or to seek a better life for your family? This is a humanitarian crisis for God’s sake. Talking about the legality of the crossings is not doing anything to help these people.
Let them all in I say, on a plane. Tax the unvaccinated in this country an extra 40 percent and that should cover it. We have more than enough room to house a few hundred thousand and they sure do deserve to come here. They are poor souls who deserve comfort and a happy home to build a life. Give them a house and car for free plus a weekly spend of a thousand pounds. I would love to see more, just not in the Cotswolds where I live. Not because I don’t want to see them I just think the area is not suitable. Up north is lovely for them.
Quick cheat sheet for the Home Office etc to help them out:
Crossing the channel to seek asylum – not illegal
Hosting parties during lockdown – illegal
Clandestine meetings with foreign powers – illegal
Can we change this shit up a bit & maybe point out when someone in government tells the fucking truth? Cos all they do is lie & I for one am sick and tired of people acting suprised by it.
I cant even bring my wife beacuse of all the visa requierments and these guys just cross in a boat its not fail they are making it harder for real visa applicants
Well let’s be honest ( and I’m no lover of current government…or the equally feckless opposition) but, the channel crossings are a point of debate 🤷
Well the BS spouted by Johnson this afternoon about an acknowledgement that things ‘need for change’ clearly hasn’t got through to Ms Patel sat a couple of seats away. Perhaps she’s awaiting a report? Someone to explain it’s meaning, or simply that it refers to all who continue to choose to serve on a sinking ship holed beneath the waterline. Perhaps she’s still in the denial phase? Or perhaps…..none of them have the slightest intention of ‘changing’ – which of course is a nailed on certainty.
And has everybody forgotten that she spent £300k of tax payers money on EYEBROWS… literally eyebrow surgery… 😵
I’m not anti immigration by any means. I have been ill recently, and during my time hospitalised in an NHS facility, I didn’t see a single white doctor and ethnic minority groups are keeping the NHS afloat. I completely understand the importance of a healthy immigration policy.
I do however completely oppose these crossings across the channel. Asylum is there to offer protection to those fleeing for their lives from persecution. People coming across from France are not fleeing danger, the reasons that draw people here from Calais are economic in nature, asylum is not intended to be a backdoor for economic migration so she is right to clamp down hard on it.
The UK is already overcrowded and struggling with non integrating migrant groups who often have by western standards, extremely fanatical and conservative religious beliefs which is totally incompatible with modern western society. Skilled migrants such as doctors or anyone else offering a valuable occupation should be offered fast track visas so they can arrive at Heathrow instead of Dover. We cant just accept anyone who washes up as that defeats the purpose of a border, and the numbers will soon be completely unmanageable. The more people we accept, the more enticing the crossing becomes as it sends out a completely wrong message.
I know the goody two shoes lefties hate Priti Patel, but she is acting in our national interests as is her job. I don’t see how any of these people arriving from Calais benefit the UK in any way shape or form. The people who have skills to offer can get a skilled occupation visa as many have already done. Most of the people coming across the channel have nothing to offer us which is why they took that route instead of applying for a visa. Getting a visa for a skilled migrant as a lot easier than clinging to the back of a lorry, so the only reason anyone would come across the channel is because they know they would never be accepted as a skilled migrant, so they abuse asylum as a back door to cheat the immigration process. Allowing this to happen is an insult to all the people who have studied hard to become experts in their field, and then gone through a lengthy process to come to our country legally and bring those skills here.
