  1. 1000 people to be moved into an old factory with bad wiring and asbestos in a community with fuck all services and all she does is harp on about integration. Sitting on the fence much?

  2. Not even gonna lie, I read it as “McDonalds” and thought “Yeah, I’d imagine it’s really hurting their business. Burger King is closer to the riots”

  3. Ah yeah, cause the fuckers setting the building on fire are going to be real into dialogue.

I’m sure there are perfectly reasonable people with reasonable concerns about all this in the area, but the fact of the matter is that the people who would be willing to discuss their concerns and come to an understanding are not the ones who are occupying a site, rioting and burning the same building multiple fucking times.

  4. Genuinely embarassing to give any ground to these thugs.

  5. This best way to reach them is standing outside the post office on dole day.

  6. Mary Lou at the auld populism game again.

Believing the people setting fires and terrorizing the guards etc. over anyone else.

    An embarrassment

  7. Rarely agree with Mary Lou but she’s 100% right, but months late. Engagement with the community should have happened a long time ago.

It’s like East Wall again, peaceful protests for months, completely ignored and then tough shit deal with it. Shameful behaviour from elected officials during the week saying it was documented in the media. That’s what they think engaging with the community is, let them read about the plans in the papers.

Funny how they can stick 100’s of asylum seekers in an abandoned factory in Coolock, but a proposed old nursing home in Dublin 4 isn’t fit for purpose due to H&S reasons.

  8. Some level of engagement will have to happen to prevent escalation and some sort of tragedy. I wouldn’t say it often, but she’s right.

  9. It’s a good idea, but community groups are hard to satisfy even on positive change. The main local wagon with a Facebook group calls the shots on issues months in advance.

You want to build flats, they’ll veto. Houses, veto. Bike lanes, veto. Playgrounds, veto. Bus routes, veto. School patronage change, veto.

Now, try to sell them on something that’s mostly a short term negative like an asylum centre or halfway house? Good luck.

  10. She is 100% right the government have to engage. Crown Paints has just gone on fire again for the 3rd time this week

  11. Engage with the community yeah nice one, they’ll stop being a bunch of racist cunts then.

Jaysus why didn’t anyone else think of “engagement” McDonald’s truly is some kind of political phenomenon 🙄

  12. I was just thinking, shit is serious if McDonalds are involved 😂
